We recently visited Saigon House Vietnamese Restaurant in Brampton and, unfortunately, our experience was underwhelming. We ordered the House Special Noodle Soup with tripes and tendons, but it was disappointing to find that the tendons were missing and the dish lacked the depth of flavor we expected.
The Crispy Wontons were okay but not remarkable. With only about six or seven pieces for $10, it felt overpriced for the portion and taste. We also tried the Pad Thai, described as stir-fried with egg, sprouts, onion, carrot in tamarind sauce topped with peanuts. Sadly, the tamarind flavor was nowhere to be found. Instead, the dish leaned heavily toward a curry-like taste with an extra sweetness that overwhelmed the balance, leaving it far from authentic Pad Thai.
We ordered young coconut juice, expecting fresh, tender coconut water with pulp. What we received instead tasted like packaged “Grace Coconut Water” with just a small piece of coconut added in — not at all what we had hoped for.
On the positive side, the ambience of the restaurant was very good. The space was clean, had plenty of seating, and offered a comfortable setting. However, billing discrepancies made the experience worse. Initially, we were charged for crab fries instead of wonton fries, and later the bill listed a large noodle soup instead of the medium we had ordered. Although these errors were corrected, they added unnecessary inconvenience.
Overall, we didn’t find the food or service worth the price, and we don’t plan...
Read moreThis place is wonderful and we've been here many times! Their food is always delicious and flavorful. They're mostly a friendly group and communicate well most of the time. The staff are generally accommodating even when busy, and I feel they are very clean. We generally go for Pho which is always yummy. They have great spring rolls too, esp if you don't mind some deep fried decadence occasionally...lol. I'm positive everything on the menu would be yummy. I really like this place for take out or dine in.
Follow up to previous review:
Since the last review, this place has changed for the worst. Maybe they're busier rendering quality much less than satisfactory! Several of my last orders have been awful...I'm not being impossible either! The Phó, which was once pretty close to amazing, has disappointed too many times this past few months. Phó is all about the broth and they've failed greatly at maintaining their once yummy broth. The broth is watered down and they're obviously trying to make up for it by adding way too much fish sauce. Very unimpressed and Phó broth is traditionally and uniquely rich and robust in flavor! I literally wanted to take it back and demand my money, as it's $34 now for 2. Time to find another Phó restaurant. The rice noodles are far too over done which completely ruins the whole bowl, rice noodles are supposed to be firm not like mush! What a sloppy mess! Please get back to quality Phò as your loyal customers deserve that!...
Read moreIf this is Brampton's only surviving Thai restaurant, then I am disappointed. Had high hopes when I ordered take-out from here on Friday: spicy basil chicken and shrimp fried rice ($19), green curry chicken ($18), and spicy Thai basil beef tenderloin stir fry with vegetables ($20). Price point is very high for what you get. I don't mind the prices, as long as the quality and taste of the food makes it worthwhile. In this case, it sadly does not. The green curry tasted okay, but the vegetables described include eggplant, broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc. There were two tiny pieces of eggplant, and two pieces of broccoli, but the rest were peppers and onions.
The rest of my order was even more pathetic. Very skimpy on protein. The chicken in the fried rice was very dry and there were 3 pieces of shrimp. Lots of plain rice though - not spicy at all, with frozen mixed veggies. I specifically asked the basil beef stir fry to be made spicy - it was not. The beef tenderloin: a few pieces of beef, but mainly said peppers and onions.
Half of the container in the stir fry consisted of white rice. They don't pack the stir fry and the rice separately - no doubt to provide a smaller portion. Even the green curry container was only 1/2 full. Never coming back here again. There are better Pho/Thai places in Vaughan that are further, but the food is...
