With all of the competition for coffee in New West, this is not a shop I would return to. My partner and I came in after some coaxing from other reviewers, and we're truly baffled at the rating. Upon entering, the atmosphere was almost solemn. We were met with no greeting from staff, and almost no acknowledgement of our presence. Aside from a couple of side eye glances, the interaction was minimal.
Ordering drinks was a relatively painless process, as their menu is standard. Don't expect anything unique, as the menu is as drab as our experience. I ordered a mocha, my partner, a chai. Let's talk about the chai - it was, what can be described as a cinnamon steam milk. I'll leave it at that. The mocha; however, fared better. The espresso was smoothe, and delicate. The milk was steamed quite well too. But, I think milk temperature left a lot to be desired. Just slightly above warm. I think it would appease an appetite for a quick coffee, but not for something to be enjoyed.
Lastly, and where I found a real lack in character by this shop was a noticeable under-filling of the cups. I thought the first cup was just a one off, but the second cup came the same way. If one pays for a 16oz beverage, you would expect a 16oz cup to be full. I would guess 2 oz per cup were absent. If you couple the foam aspect of a drink to this, you're out quite a bit from the volume of beverage. Now, I wouldn't count foam usually as a lack of volume, but I feel it's fair to make this point as together, this makes the beverage comparable to their next sized 12oz drink size. I expected more diligence.
All in all, stars were lost for: poor/awkward service, value for drink, and overall drink quality. There is better to be found, especially on the same street. We...
Read moreBeen coming to this coffee shop for over a year as it generally has the best coffee in New West. However, staff has changed. Music is too loud and staff are inconsistent..either friendly or not/good latte or not.Today was a not good latte day which was much needed after exams. Unfortunately I decided to say something but waited until after a rush (where one lady had left without her coffee altogether since the staff took too long). I apologized to interrupt but explained my latte did not taste very good, it either had watered down espresso or not nearly enough. The male staff member was immediately defensive (even though it was the young girl that had made it) and told me it was the size of the cup I brought and that they HAD to fill it up with milk. I explained that I have always used the same cup. He argued, then reluctantly said he would make me another cup. When I picked up the new latte, he informed me that I should really be ordering a Macchiato. I said that I drink latte's at numerous places including JJ Bean, Caffe Divano, and Artigiano and have never had it taste like that... He again pressed that I need to order Macchiato's. I politely disagreed and left..... Perhaps I should more carefully select the cups I bring in? As a 16oz will really degrade the quality of your latte...but only sometimes...but then I guess I don't really know what I should be ordering either, after decades of lattes....I do know where I won't be ordering...
