I'm not going to be cruel while writing this because these guys did the best they could, but I really don't get what the hype is all about. Feels like people in New Westminster groups have never traveled outside of this city ever and tried anything else. I keep falling for the hype over and over again thinking maybe this time they might just be right and maybe this time it would be different. I'll give you the only positive experience of eating here first - the young lady at the counter taking the order was very jolly and helpful. I own a business so I know how hard it is to find a good employee. Moving on to the food - It's no secret that the bread is the foundation of any great sandwich, and in this case, it felt somewhat stale and lacked any sort of flavour. The beef was rather unseasoned and didn't have any savory flavor, a more seasoned and marinated meat option could significantly improve the taste. Even the sauces lacked flavor. Do not fall for the hype, this is a really expensive sandwich shop which is not even close to being good.

I've gotten catering done by Big Star Sandwich twice now and I've gotten compliments on the sandwiches. Sandwiches are on the pricey side for sure. However, the quality is there. We've always gotten bunch of turkey, roast beef, and pulled pork sandwiches. (#21, 25, 27) We think roast beef and pulled pork sandwiches are better than the turkey ones. Forgot what number is what. Somehow, the turkey ones taste good enough, but they were drier than other ones. The sandwiches actually taste pretty good even the next day after you put them in their air fryer for like three minutes. I think their bread is really awesome. Even if you are a big eater, two of these sandwiches will probably get you full. They're professional and the sandwiches are always made and prepared to be picked up on time. Probably will get more sandwiches done by these guys if I have another party.

I ordered a sandwich from Big Star on Doordash today. I paid a total of $23.00 for 1 small sandwich & the delivery fee. When I grabbed it to take a bite, the bottom of the bread was soaking wet, and the whole sandwich was a soggy mess. The bread wasn’t wet from the sauce, it actually felt as though somebody must have accidentally spilled water on it. The vegetables on the sandwich were mushy and not crisp or fresh at all. And lastly, I asked for the store to please add extra cheese to my sandwich, and I did not receive extra cheese. If you’re going to charge people a ridiculously high price for 1 sandwich, the least you could do is make sure it is actually of quality…. Very poor experience.

I pre-ordered a sandwich platter to be delivered to the Inn at the Quay hotel for the morning of my Sept 21, 2019 wedding. There was a party bus sitting outside and the sandwiches were meant to be delivered at 12:30pm and taken directly onto the bus. The bus driver knew all about it and he was prepared for them.

The sandwiches were delicious. My entire bridal party was happy and had complements for sure.

The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because the sandwiches got delivered at 11:30am. So while we were getting ready in the last hour, one of my girls had to scramble to go downstairs to pick up the sandwiches - and then we of course had bring them BACK down again with everything else we were carrying. Meanwhile the bus driver called at 12:15 wondering if he had missed the delivery. He got there early to make sure he took receipt of them. May not seem like a big deal (and in the end because they were delicious it wasn’t) .... It was just slightly annoying because I had confirmed the day before that 12:30 would be when they were delivered. And getting phone calls while I was trying to get the last of my make up done was a little awkward. Could’ve been avoided by delivering when I asked is all.

But all in all the sandwiches were delicious and I’m really happy they...

I’ve been frequenting Big Star in New West for years. I ordered my usual and asked to extra cheese and there’s a surcharge for that. I got my sandwich and took 2 bites to realize they didn’t add the extra. I went up front and told them it was missing the extra cheese. The girl seemed unsure what to do. A gentleman that was in behind that didn’t have an apron or hat on, was told. He grabbed 2 pieces of cheese with his bare hands and handed them to me. I was in shock as he didn’t wash his hands nor did he even look like he was an employee. I was disgusted, I left the prices of cheese and had a few more bites of the sandwich. I wish I had said something in the moment as this was really against food safety with him putting his bare unwashed hands into the cheese holder. I won’t be back, this was my first negative experience here after being a regular for years. Food safety should be priority. I won’t go into details on what he looked like as I can see the owner which I was told his family owns the restaurant. I’ll just say eat there at your...
