...................''DON'T GO HERE''.............. I always read the reviews before trying a new restaurant ..after reading the reviews about Vassilis and this one, its a no brainer to go here ..It's our 11 year wedding anniversary ..we are going to give this joint a try ...if I don't come back give low score & complain you know it was all good and we left feeling like we made the correct decision on which Greek restaurant to go to ................................. ...** Well I'm back and its the next day now , our experience with Ramie's was not that great I'm sorry to report , First the girl wanted to seat us right beside the entrance (worst tiniest seat in the joint . I refused so she put us in side room in tiniest table right beside that entrance ..it was 330 the place was empty ...errrr!!!...My wife ordered Calamari & I Chicken Souvlaki with extra salad dressing , taziki & a half Lt. of Wine . they brought the pita and side plates then the meals , the taziki but my salad was dry..no waitress came back in site for ten minutes , I really needed the dressing as I can not eat the rice with out it ..errr!!!...finally got the stuff Kinda, yuki too ...our table was so F'in crammed I put the empty little bowl on the double table beside us ..the waitress spotted the bowl there came over and made a big fuss about me putting the bowl there that they had people coming in to sit there ...she came back twice to wipe the spot ..then proceeded to set the table even went so far as to put menu's on it ..I looked around it was the only table in the whole place that was set ...buy the time we left there was like 4 people in the whole place and no one came and sat at the crummy table stuffed in the side room anyway . it was a horrible experience on our most special day ...till the day I die I will be telling people not to go here ..I was born and raised in Vancouver and I just turned 62 a week ago ..and believe me the food was not great either the chicken was dry and leathery ..the Calamari seemed not cooked enough and rubbery .and the portions were small .I think the people giving reviews here are restaurant connected they are not true...Stepho's on Davie Blows this joint away in every aspect ..Do yourself a favor...
Read moreWhat a bloody name. It sounds like a cross between a fabric store and a place where they serve you a plate of disappointment. But hey, we gave it a shot.
Picture this – you walk in, and it’s like stepping into your grandma’s living room. The walls are semi plastered with photos of ancient island setting, and the lighting is dimmer than their chances of winning a Michelin star.
The service is friendly, but it’s as if they’ve hired Hermes, the messenger god, to take your order. I asked for a menu, and before I could say “feta cheese,” they slapped it down like a Greek tragedy unfolding before my eyes. Blink, and your wine arrives.
As for the food, they’ve thrown every Greek dish in the world on this menu. They got your moussaka, your stuffed grape leaves, your ribs, your pastas – it’s a bloody Greek potluck. But the pièce de résistance? The slow-roasted lamb. Apparently, it’s been “the toast of Metrotown” for years. Well, I’ll be the judge of that, the next time I go, I had the moussaka and I ordered it with the same trepidation as Odysseus entering the cave of the Cyclops.
Here I am, questioning poor Ramie’s and yet secretly harboring a forbidden love for their moussaka. It’s like a tragic romance – doomed from the start, yet irresistible.
Let’s rewind the tape, shall we? Imagine me fork in hand, staring down at that layered masterpiece. The eggplant, the meat, the bechamel – they all whispered sweet nothings to my taste buds. And that sauce! Oh, that heavenly bechamel sauce. It clung to my fork like a desperate lover, promising ecstasy with every bite.
So yes, my friend, I confess: I loved the moussaka. It was as if Aphrodite herself had sprinkled it with forbidden passion I felt when I visited Naxos with my lover. Alas, the rest of the dish – the eggplant, the meat, and the bechamel sauce may it forever dance on our tongues, defying the gods themselves.
In conclusion, the wine list could use some work but hey we will...
Read moreI went to Vassilis Souvlaki Greek Taverna for our 9th wedding anniversary the night of December 26, 2018 with just my wife and our 7 year old son. She was all dressed up for the occasion ready for a special evening out. What a terrible experience for all of us. An small example is the additional $4 for 4 meatballs smaller than a golf ball, and burnt on the outside for their pasta plate, which my son never finished the first one he bit into, to name just one of many things wrong with this eatery.
We wanted to come here to Ramie's first, but it was closed for the holidays on December 26. I felt badly for my Vietnamese wife's first Greek restaurant experience, and attending the Greek Festival in the summers on Boundary. I wanted to show her what good Greek food was all about. So we came here last night after a bad experience the night before.
Great portioned food, and excellent service, at a wonderful price. My wife and I were happy with the entire evening. My son loved the food, which is hard for him and his picky appetite. He gobbled up our calamari appetizer quickly before his entree arrived. He's now become a huge fan of Feta cheese because of our dining experience.
Ramie's took good care of us last night. I would highly recommend this place, as we will be back again. Thanks to all the staff, especially our server. Can't wait for the warmer months so we can eat on...
