Bell's Cafe — Restaurant in Calgary

When you happen upon it, a small-town feel with the promise of being curled up with a good coffee and book... the fantasy is elevated hoping it just might rain too (Think: "The plants will love this." - Phyllis Lapin-Vance, The Office).

I am a lady of routine, so it is an oat milk honey latte and a mixed berry scone for me, with the intention of one day trying one of their many, AMAZING-LOOKING sandwiches...just have to muster up the courage to change my order. Man! Not too much honey in my latte to over-sweeten it, and crumble on top of a scone?! Come on! Plus, I witness the sweet employees baking it fresh-in-house every time I visit.

I have spent the last couple summers as a landscaper, and finding a free washroom can be the fun challenge of my day. I come to Bell's, often without my purse, and they kindly let me use their washroom without a heavy sigh or look of disdain. The wholesome artistry matches the rest of the cafe, and they have free sanitary products in case one finds themselves in a pinch! For added cuteness, they have Lush refresher spray/tonic (I use it on my face, but it just occurred to me it may be for keeping the bathroom smelling fresh? Either way, I'm game) and mental health stickers that encourage you to keep on keepin' on.

The only suggestion to make this place even more wholesome? Maybe, like, a rescue cat? Or a rescue garden pixie?

The definition of a home style neighbourhood coffee shop - nothing fancy but coziness to work on your work, to read a book or have small intimate chats. It reminds me of coffee shops you would see in small towns. Wonderful customer service and friendly folks. They take the time to make your food and drinks. The coffee here is very well done and strong tasting - had the blended latte (not sweet at all, not overpowered by milk or watered down by ice/water). It bears a great frothy and strong taste of coffee beans - delicious. They offer bagel, sandwiches and baked goods as food. The breakfast bagel with a choice of ham, bacon or avocado on whichever bagel you chose, was presented very well and in a generous portion to leave you filled. If you've had bagels that felt really strong tasting of salt and other flavours, do not expect this here. The food is very clean and healthy tasting (no overpowering flavouring) - a guilt free choice knowing you're eating well here. Good selection of meat and vegetarian options. There is a hidden-ish back patio with two tables, a good amount of seating inside and some outdoor at the storefront. I come here on a weekly basis as it’s my favourite in the neighborhood . I always get a large latte . However, anytime I go there and the female barista with blonde curly hair is consistently hostile and just downright rude . Last time I went in (last week) she threw the change at me and then when I left she slammed the door on my just as I exited . Anytime I go there she is consistently rude and hostile and zero customer service whatsoever . She always seems like she is pissed off and don’t doesn’t want to be there and comes across like she hates her job or maybe she hates me I don’t know . I’ve been coming to this cafe for 1.5 years now and EVERY single time I go she is grumpy, rude and looks like she hates being there.
