I had high hopes of finding a go-to seafood shop that was close by that’s more local than a large grocery store.
As a first time customer I had expectations of a higher cost, midsize selection of products, and kind customer service. Unfortunately I had a very poor experience with their customer service. I’m okay to pay a premium for quality products and service but without even baseline level of customer service I did not find the value of shopping at Boyd’s.
I’ll still be looking to find a local seafood shop but after my experience, it will not be Boyd’s. I will not be recommending them to friends in the area either. Cost, selection and service are the three important aspects of most places but Boyd’s failed to meet all, primary on the service.
If there is anyone monitoring these responses. Please take note, service will turn first time customers like myself into tenured shoppers. In this case, a long term customer was lost within the first 5 minutes of...
Read moreI really thought it would be and I wanted it to be a positive experience. My boyfriend sent me to swing by and pick up fish for dinner. He loves their shop and service. But the lady working there was not friendly and when I asked for a whole fish, she gave me a speech about how anyone who wants a whole fish calls ahead of time. She tells me if my boyfriend has been there before he should know that because they don't always have whole fish. My boyfriend has lived in Calgary for 30 years has never called ahead and has always had great service. He has never been told that. She gave me no options. I read out a list of fish and she only continued to tell me the same thing. How about non whole fish? Only salmon, she said. I left. So sad. My boyfriend loves Boyd's. I never want to be back there and spoken to like that again. If she doesn't have it, just say that "we ran out" and apologize. It's not...
Read moreThis store has a small selection of almost entirely previously frozen seafood. The vast majority of seafood should never be frozen, period. That lack of respect for the products being sold is bad enough that I'd never go there again.
I MIGHT pay $35/lb for fresh scallops still in their shell a half hour after being caught, but to charge that for previously frozen garbage is ludicrous. I'm amazed that this place is in business.
Worse than that, to have the person working there insult my intelligence by trying to tell me that their massively overpriced previously frozen scallops taste just as good as fresh ones is an inexcusable outright lie that shows either profound ignorance towards seafood or a fundamental lack of respect for both seafood and the customer.
Not only would I never go back, but I'll tell anyone I know looking for good-quality seafood to go somewhere, almost anywhere, else. Very, very...
