On the hunt for the best hot chicken sandwich in Calgary. Saw some recommendations on reddit so came here to try the mother clucker sandwich.
The mother clucker sandwich was weak. Didn’t find it spicy at all. Maybe if you’re not good with spice, you might find this spicy. I did find the sandwich to be crispy, but not greasy (but how?! 🤔)! Chicken was cooked just right and not dry. I also thought the sandwich was kinda on the small size. Didn’t feel very full after the sandwich.
Also had the lil clucker sandwich and it was alright. Again, crispy but not greasy (I want to know the secret!). It was also the same size as the other chicken sandwich and not dry.
Coleslaw was a letdown. It seemed to lack flavour. Also found a hair when I got down to the last few bites. I think I was more disappointed with the lack of flavour…
Chocolate malt was nice on a hot day. Not too sweet, very thick, reminded me of a stronger flavoured Wendy’s frosty.
Ordered on the spot and food came fast. No dining tables inside, but there’s a couple of patio tables out front. Place looks nice and staff were nice. Parking is limited; there’s a couple of stalls in front and a few in the back.
Someone commented saying this place is pricey. Don’t think prices are posted online, so check out other’s photos so you know what to expect.
Overall, kinda disappointed with my first experience at Cluck N Cleaver. But I think I’ll come back to try out the...
Read moreLet me begin by saying my wife enjoyed the chicken at CnC but I was left underwhelmed. For starters, I couldn’t help but notice the crust on the fried chicken was completely detached from the under-layer of utterly soggy/fatty skin…..an acceptable result for an at-home hobbyist perhaps, but not impressive for a restaurant that specializes in fried chicken. If I had to guess, the dredge wasn’t given the time to rest and adhere to the skin to make a proper cohesive crust. The chicken itself was of noticeably high quality, if not slightly under done on the biggest pieces. Not raw by any means but not exactly cooked until tender and falling off the bone(personal preference not a knock on the restaurant). There was one exception. One of the dark meat pieces which must’ve come from a different bird was really off-putting in flavour. Could not eat that one.
The sides: coleslaw was actually quite good. It had a nice subtle mustardy heat to it that I very much liked. Roasted potatoes: they were fine if not completely dry and forgettable. Would it be crazy to ask for them to be tossed in something like an herb butter, house seasoning or some drippings?
Anyhoo it’s a really nice local business. Wish them the best but I hope they can get their standards up...
Read moreI would rate this place a 5/5 for its rotisserie chicken - it's delicious, flavourful, and moist! The gravy is great! The bean salad is also delicious! I also admire their enviromental strategy (compostable cutlery and containers). It would be nice to know more about the chicken itself (are they ethically raised - can't see anything on the website about that)? Anyway, the reason for only 2 stars is because I am very frustrated. Last night was the third time in the last few months that I've been to Cluck N Cleaver to order rotisserie chicken and they've run out. It wasn't even 7pm so there's no reason they should be out of chicken so early. If this had only happened once, I wouldn't write a negative review, but it's happened multiple times. It's not like there's another option. It's either rotisserie or fried chicken, and if you don't eat fried foods then you have to go elsewhere. From a customer satisfaction perspective, I'd recommend that: (a) they figure out a better model for predicting demand, (b) have discount cards or some other incentive to offer customers on the (hopefully) rare occasion that they do run out. Anyway, the rotisserie chicken is really delicious! Until they figure out their supply issues, I suggest you get...
