Where to start? I had high hopes for this place, I was actually looking forward too visiting This place as it was always great visiting Tokyo street market.

We went here yesterday and upon coming in, the first thing we noticed was the uncleaned tables on the main floor and stacked dirty dishes by the Stairs. I was not able to take a photo as there another table with people in them and I didn’t want them to think I’m taking a photo of them.

The food was also very disappointing. We got two onigiri from downstairs (one karaage and one chasu). Both seems old, like they have been sitting there for a few days. The chasu filling was ok, but the karaage was not. There were barely any chicken in there, mostly the batter for the karaage.

We also got two ramen meals and wings. The wings was probably the best thing we got here, they were crispy and season well. We got takoyaki and gyoza for our side and both appears to be pre-made so they were ok for what they were. For the ramen, we got the bold and aka ramen. The ramen noodles on both was either over or under cooked, whatever it was, the texture was just not right, very unappealing! The soup base for the bold ramen was also super salty, which is what I got, I couldn’t finish the bowl (and it’s a small bowl). The topping for both ramen was also super dry.

I am very...

I’ve been a long-time customer of Tokyo. Both their original street market and Tokyo station. The quality has gone down and the service is horrific. The last 3 times we’ve ordered, they’ve messed up. We recently called to let them know they had supplied the incorrect broth for an order, ones we’ve ordered countless times so we knew it was incorrect, and the photos online also back this up. Called, happy to come and swap for the correct broth. Not only did this utterly confuse them and result in a nearly 10 minute phone call trying to explain (we genuinly had been in the shop 5 min prior) they thought we wanted to order something new - despite REPEATED statements that “our order is wrong”. I’ve worked in food, it’s as simply as replacing the incorrect order. We were tossed for FOUR different people on the phone. So now, what should’ve been a seamless order, is now a nearly 20 minute ordeal, with our original food cold. This wasn’t a complex order, 2 ramens. Not difficult. Will really reconsider ordering here again in the future for how frustrating the mess...

Market: As we came into the store the staff greeted us and are very friendly! We looked at various market items for sale and they were all fun and delightful as one might expect from a Japanese Market, I will come back for some matcha. I bought some instant boba tea packets, I can't wait to try them.

Ramen: The Main floor and upstairs has dining space for the ramen, a very quick and simple menu. We ordered a really delicious ramen with truffle oil. My friends ordered gyoza and said they would come back too.

Ice-cream: Downstairs we sampled their wasabi and miso ice-cream and they were so different and delicious, I'm coming back for more one day. We bought a matcha soft serve and a lemon ice cream that tasted incredibly fresh, the lemon zest in it was top notch. They made the ice-creams there, nobody else makes flavours like this in Calgary.

Update after 6 months: The ramen is 100% consistent after coming quite a few times. The staff are still friendly and the place is always clean. This is now one of my go-to...

This place is a gem for all your Japanese cravings and Tokyo streets nostalgia. Don’t be deceived by this small house resto. It has three floors to accommodate dine-in as well as take out orders. Their menu is not that extensive, but they go direct to the point of your cravings for cheap Ramen and delicious Japanese side dishes like gyoza, edamame and chicken wings! We tried their Ramen combo with one choice of side and any drink from their fridge. I got the Melon carbonated drink and it taste like my childhood melon soda! Their Tonkorsu Ramen tasted really savoury with tender juicy pork cuts, delicious garlic broth and firm noodles. It only costs you $9 for Ramen! Actually it’s better than any other expensive ramen places in Calgary. My wife ordered the Sushi Bento with 8 sushi rolls and 4 sashimi, miso soup and salad bowl. And it also costs $9!! Their Takoyaki was also great with real bits of octopus/squid and savoury batter. We will be back for sure!!
