Ordered the Rio Special pan pizza without the Pineapples (there are two kinds of people...) and it was one of the best pizza I’ve ever had. The ingredients were fresh, crust was crunchy and chewy on the inside, they put lots of toppings on top and really generous with the mozzarella cheese. When I heard that they are family owned, I didn’t hesitate to order pizza from them rather getting one from commercial pizza places. I support local businesses and totally worth it.

Came here after Andrew Phung said it was one of his favorite in Calgary. I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza and an anchovy pizza. Very glad this place does anchovies - that is hard to find in the city. Plus, they put more anchovies on their pizza than Papa John's. Their sauce on both pizzas was tomato forward. The pizza dough was thick - I ordered regular pizza but they have a thin crust option. I really enjoyed their 10 inch pizza deal. I'll be back for an anchovy pizza!

Definitely great, fast service and amazing prices! I tried the cesar salad and also two pizzas: thick crust Hawaiian and thin crust cheese. Portions were big enough. I really enjoyed the salad. The pizza dough were both good but the sauce was too sweet. It was feeling more like a rose sauce / penne romanoff sauce than a typical pizza sauce. It was lacking acidity. I would go back, but only if I’m in the area and if I have a craving for a cheap cesar salad.

This has been a long time coming, 29 years in fact, and after another amazing meal I knew it was time to put it out there – Rio Pizza makes the best pizza in Calgary. Hands down.

That’s right kids, I’ve been ordering from Rio Pizza since the heady days of 1991, when the competition for my pizza dollar in the Lower Mount Royal area was fierce. Who remembers California Pizza? Or Odyssey? Who could forget Spiro’s? I’ve tried them all, but while others have come and gone, Rio has stood by me, delivering hot and fresh every time, with some of the friendliest people I know meticulously making my pizza exactly the way I like it at a price point that can’t be beat.

Now, I’ve always ordered thin-crust pizza, no extras, always the same combination – Rio Special and a Meat Lovers (maybe tossing in a Greek Special and a Club if there are more mouths to feed) – and it’s always been delicious, but in the not too distant past I decided to change it up a bit and add some hot wings to my order. I know what you are thinking, is this guy crazy? All I can say is what a revelation! My life changed for the better and the only question I had was what took me so long? Amazing pizza AND amazing wings? You can’t be serious! I really can’t explain why I didn’t try them sooner, but it’s to my eternal shame that it took me so long to do it. People who know me might say I have pizza tunnel vision (it's a thing, I do have it, much to my doctor's chagrin), but in my defense, I CAN learn and grow.

The moral of this story is that Rio makes good food, damn good food, and they have been for a very long time. Give it a try, I know you will not be disappointed. I, too, will continue to enjoy Rio Pizza for as long as they’ll have me as a customer. Guaranteed.

TL;DR – Rio Pizza = damn good food, go order some now, you’ll thank me later.

PS: If you're in Rio's delivery area order from them directly and support this incredible...

Do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned money in a place that appreciates their clients. We had been ordering from here for a few years fairly frequently, its good - not great - pizza, theres definitely better such as Nikos, 4th Street, Gondola, Verona, Inglewood, Noble Pie - but its decent enough to keep you coming back. However the customer service here is terrible. Tonight our order was delivered incomplete - missing the pasta portion. Called them, the guy that answered the phone was rude, puts a lady on who needs far better phone matters when dealing with the public but we got it worked out and she was sending another courier over with our missing dish. Then calls me back and says I have to pay for it when it gets to me because skip refunded the 12 bucks in credits to us. You know, we fully intended to pay for our order - of course, we ordered it, but when your met with rude person barking at you, talking over you, not listening to you, and then uses the words "the customer is not always right!" its pretty insulting. I worked in restaurants for over a decade, I would have given the $9 pasta to the person because it was not their fault it didnt arrive with the rest of their order. Not berated them and make them feel terrible. In the end our replacement pasts never showed up. AVOID THIS PLACE. Seriously, call one of the other places listed above their pizza is superior and you will never be treated...

I had the opportunity, few days ago, to try for the very first time (as a customer) this pizza. I already knew (from different friends) that Rio Pizza is one of the best pizzas in Calgary. Let me tell you that they all were right. This pizza is just amazing. I went for the thin crust, one peperone and the other one two veggies. Everything was great, the taste was so delicious, the dough is fresh, the ingredients were the right amount. All, absolutely all was perfect.

However, what makes this pizza unique is the quality of the persons behind. They are so friendly, really nice people. They are able to impregnate the food with their happiness. I used to work as a courier before and every time that I have to pick some food up from them, I have a really good time. They usually offer something whoever is waiting, couriers, customers, etc. They can give to you sample of pizza, chocolates, water, candies, fruits, etc. But the most gratifying “thing” they can give to you is their kindness.

I wish most of the customers service positions can learn from those guys, definitively the world would be different. If you have not tried this pizza before, you have to.

If you go there, you say that “troublemaker” send you. For sure, you will get 25% extra smiling.

Rio Pizza keep rocking like that..!!! you are the best…!!!!

Jonathan...
