Galaxy Karaoke — Restaurant in Calgary

It was my first time coming to Galaxy and I was beyond excited to check it out. I was quickly disappointed with the poor service. Me and my friends called letting Galaxy know that our trains were running late and we apologized and asked them if it was possible to move back our reservation. We were prepared for a "no"; however, the male on the phone replied with a "No problem! Thanks for letting us know. We will move back your reservation". When we arrived (5 mins after the pushed back reservation time), the male told us that he cancelled our reservation because we didn't call. We were utterly confused because we did call and it was obviously him since he was the only male working there at that time. He ended our questions with "Ultimately, it's up to me to make the decision to give your room away.". Thank you sir, for pulling the power card on us. I would have been 100% okay if you told us that you had to give our room away if you had been polite and not lied about us calling. This left a bad taste in my mouth when we managed to get an hour of karaoke in. The room was nice and the song selection was large, but I left Galaxy being displeased with the human interaction. In addition, the food and drinks are largely overpriced. Very disappointed that this would be my first experience...

Just my friend and I went here, it was fun! Its a little confusing how to use the machine (we were instructed) but it doesn't take long to figure it out with guidance. I wish it was a bit easier to look up songs, since with the tablet it seems to force you to have a genre. However with the other keyboard that wasn't an issue.

I found it considerably nice that when I complained of migraines due to the flashing lights, we were promptly moved to a different room that had better lighting control. The flashing lights did turn back on towards the end (10 minutes till we left) but I know that if I asked they would have fixed it.

Didn't get any alcohol, but did get their fried dumplings! They were yummy.

The one thing that was kind of annoying to me was the sound proofing. It didn't bother my friend, but I could hear the music outside of our room very clearly and it was overstimulating. However, if you don't have sound sensitivity this probably won't be a problem and can be ignored.

Poor to no service. Did not offer us any waters when we entered the room. If you want drinks, it’s technically self serve since there are no waiters - only busboys. Likewise, if you want napkins, you have to go up to the counter. Priced as a premium karaoke place, but compared to other karaoke places in the city (Bacchus, sole), this place ranks at the bottom overall. That being said, the other karaoke places waives the karaoke fee if you spend a certain amount on food/drink - galaxy karaoke does not. In other words, galaxy is the most expensive karaoke place in the city yet what you get in return in terms of service and quality, is sub par and pitiful. To top it off, they make you pay before you start your karaoke session which is unheard of. Furthermore, the man that was at the front was rude and brushed us off when we had a concern when they wanted to charge us extra hour for showing up late. Seriously, this place should be a last resort if the other places are closed. Save your money and book the other places before...
