Like many other reviews here, the food is good, but the service is absolutely terrible.
Stopped in at 905/910pm on a Friday night. Operating hours state they close at 10pm on Fridays.
The one lady was very accommodating and friendly. A taller lady came over and started speaking with the nice lady in Korean and english and from what I gathered was the taller lady didn't want to serve us but rather only accept takeout orders. Note, the restaurant stated it was open till 10pm and we arrived at about 905/910pm; more than enough time to serve us. The nice lady asked us to wait and went to the back with the taller lady, then came out and happily sat us. We ordered quickly as we didn't want to annoy them.
At the same time, another couple came in and ordered takeout and sat and waited for their food which took about 25-30 minutes total.
As our meals started to arrive, it was the taller lady that was bringing our food out for us. We could tell she was visibly not pleased and her attitude was very poor. Our food was just tossed on the table and she walked off./, nothing but attitude. The other lady, the nicer one, came by and offered us a complimentary miso soup top up as they would be closing the kitchen soon. We declined as we didn't feel comfortable due to the attitude from the taller lady.
Anyway, we quickly ate our food in haste - didn't even finish and just packed the remainder up to eat at home, and I went and paid the bill immediately. Tipped 20% for the bad service as we felt bad for coming in almost an hour close to closing, and thanked them and we left. It was now 945pm. We literally got in, rush ordered, rush ate, and rush left as the taller lady made us feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable. Terrible way to end an evening.
Although the food was good, we will not be returning and I recommend others look for an alternative to Katsu in the city. No one deserves this type of service and none deserves to be treated this way. We were very friendly and kind as well accommodating, no attitude from us. If your hours state you are open to a certain time, the expectation is that customers would be served up to a reasonable time. We came in 50-55 minutes before closing. Not 15 minutes before. And they were also taking takeout orders still so it wasn't like the kitchen was closed either.
Anyway, I do not recommend. Read the other low feedback and you will see service is...
Read moreWe came here on Sunday Dec 15 and there were 2 female servers, the taller one was the one who initially “greeted” us. Well, she didn’t really greet us. She was standing by the cashier and quietly yelled “2?” While I responded yes, she was grabbing a water jug from the fridge and then she yelled “GO SIT” as she pointed at a table. I found her tone to be quite rude but I let it slide. The shorter girl was the one who ended up taking our order and serving us, she was lovely. Throughout our meal I observed the way the taller server was handling and serving other customers, she did not look nor sound like she wanted to be there. At the end of our meal, our server was busy with another table and so I asked the taller girl for a to-go container as we did not finish our meal. She handed us the containers and I asked for a small container for the sauce that was in the sauce bowl on my plate. I even pointed directly at the sauce in the bowl while asking for a container. She rolled her eyes and said it would be an extra dollar. This threw me off because why was I being charged an extra dollar for sauce that I had already been using to eat my meal with? I thought maybe she misunderstood and thought I was asking for an extra sauce but when I asked again to clarify she confirmed that me bringing home my sauce would be an extra dollar so I declined. This makes absolutely no sense to me as to why I would be charged an extra dollar for an item that already comes with the meal that I paid for? I looked over to where the taller server was standing and I could see her glaring at me as she was talking to her coworkers, so I decided to glare back. Not sure what her problem was? To my surprise she was about to walk towards us and the shorter server pulled her back by her sweater and pushed her aside. Wonder what she was thinking of doing? As good as the food here is we will not returning because apparently they charge you an extra dollar for wanting to take home part of your meal if you don’t finish it AND because the service of that taller server was absolutely ridiculous and...
Read moreOk so I've only had Katsu once before in Vancouver area very reputable place and that place was unreal. So hearing about Kim's Katsu a while ago I really wanted to try it. So tonight I took my sister out for her 45th birthday to Kim's, and all I can say is WOW. Seriously unreal. So I've never really been a miso soup kind of person, not sure just never really liked it. Kim's miso soup was hands down the best bowl of miso soup I've had in my entire life. After trying and not finishing countless bowls I finally found one. I said to my sister, it's like my mouth is coated in flavour. And it was just a bowl of soup. Them we had the fried dumplings, gyoza and edemame beans. All very good. The fried dumings are just amazing. Very tantalizing to the tongue. That was was my favorite appy. Then came out the mains. And boy I gotta say I was impressed. Light, crispy and juicy pork fried to perfection. My choice of sauce mix was the hot mustard, it's just SO good. At the table we had cheese Katsu, chicken, shrimp and an absolute dynamite dish called snow Katsu. We ate everything and could stop but had to as I was full because for the price the portion size is ample to say the least. I must mention the condiments because it comes with a trio of pickled veg that just ignites your taste buds. I have to say i was very happy with my first experience at Kim's Katsu. If you want a meal that excites your palate and fills your belly without losing your shirt, I very strongly recommend this place. I mean it's deepfried pork that's cooked to perfection what else...
