Myhre's Deli - Sandwiches & Poutine — Restaurant in Calgary

I love food from Montreal/Quebec and having lived in Alberta for a couple of years, I was really missing the good food that we have over there, So I was looking forward to getting that experience again but in Calgary.

The Quality of the food was very nice, my tuna melt wrap was very satisfying, the coleslaw salad is very light and healthy.

The Quebec all dressed hot dog I got was very good but it was not very authentic, first of all where I'm from all dressed is made with relish, mustard, choped onions and coleslaw and in mine there was no mustard or chopped onions at all. Secondly usually our hot dogs are called "steamer" because they are steamed and so is the bun, but the bun while being excellent gourmet style bun it was not steamed or grilled so a big missed opportunity here when the sausage is warm but the bun is not.

Finally the poutine I got was probably the most authentic item, it was a very good poutine but the gravy was very thin, we usually use thicker gravy and a little more gravy overall, the cheese was excellent squeaky cheese like you would expect and the fries could have used a little more cooking to reach that golden crisp a little more.

All in all, it was a Great experience and I was satisfied with all my food, it's almost like they turned my typical Quebec junk food into a more gourmet experience and with a couple little tweaks I feel like this location could be a 5 stars deffinately.

So my BFF and I had a hankering for a real deal Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich, as I have recently just moved back from Vancouver, I've also been on the hunt for "The Best" in town, Everyone kept telling me about Grumans, but they are closed on Mondays, and the good Old Google machine advised of Myhres, which just so happened to be located in our Old Hood, When we got there, it felt like we were right at home, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom on the television to keep us entertained...We knew we were in the right place, seating at the bar seemed to be our only option at the time and then a friendly voice from the booth behind us was the owners daughter who was doing some work on her computer, she was super accommodating and gave up her booth for us. Not only is chivalry NOT DEAD, but the customer service was outstanding, As for the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich...Ah-Maze-ing!!!
