the stars are purely for the food. the food was delicious. service was quite frankly abysmal. ordered a coffee, a sparkling water and a smoothie. we watched the drinks be put up at the bar, and despite 7 team members working (who were all loitering and looking confused about what they were doing), it took 15 minutes to come. the coffee was not dropped off and still sat at the bar. after another 5 minutes our server who literally took our order asked her team members what this iced coffee was. their response was “it’s sat here for 20 minutes, we don’t know”. my husband asked for a sparkling mineral water, and a western family soda can was dropped off. at least put it in the glass… after we had waved down another server to ask if there was sparkling mineral water, she instead grabbed us regular waters and then our server immediately followed with waters. at the end of our meal, the server dropped the bill and had left on the coffee which we never received and clearly hadn’t even acknolwedged the fact.

another issue was seeing that the team didn’t know table numbers/seat numbers, as our food was about to be ran to the wrong table before someone else had to run over to them to stop it hitting the table. then, our table and the two tables next to us all had their dishes switched across the table when being served.

it was clear from this experience that the team at this location do not have great communication or team chemistry — acknowledging that the coffee had sat on the bar for 20 minutes but not thinking to check previous chits to see where it was missed, to help out your teammates is basic hospitality.

i rarely leave a bad review, but this one just didn’t sit right. i understand brunch service is a lot of flips, a lot of covers, but with that many staff on the service could have been smooth and seamless. the team chemistry can really be seen by the guests and it was clear to us that no one in this location were working together and helping each other, which is turn affects...

I do write reviews. Not very often but sometimes when it's really need it. I was there with my family. It was my wife's birthday. I was celebrating that with along with my two and a half year old daughter. From the moment I came in it was a busy restaurant and coming from hospitality background. I understand servers are cannot get to my table right away but the server did came in offers the coffee and everything first. Surprising point that the restaurant doesn't have a kids menu to look at. That tells me coming from the hospitality background that children's and minors are basically not welcomed as they don't have a kids menu to offer. Secondly, a water yes, a glass of water was not even served until the very end and served only When I asked for it. The options are limited so I thought the food quality and quantity will be aligned with the price that the restaurant is charging. I do have the photo of the food that was given to me for 20 bucks. Not worth it and this is the first restaurant in my life. I've seen with the egg dish you're getting comes only with one piece of toast. Yes, that's right. One piece of toast. I understand inflation is on the rise and every small business is trying to you increase the price. Totally respect that decision but not under the cost of ripping off people not providing the value of the materials and the service. I'm very disappointed. This was my second visit to this restaurant and I'll tell you one thing I left with the huge disappointment and probably never going to do it in here again. Best wishes to the...

First time visit. Met a friend for breakfast. Had a reservation and glad we did, it made it quick and simple. Street parking is limited due to construction in the University District. but underground parking across the street is an entire block long and plenty of spaces. OEB has a scan code for 3 hours free parking at the front desk.

MENU: Fantastic choices, competitive prices, great substitution options.

FOOD: Friend had the Lobster Scramble Poutine. I had the Lobster and Shrimp Crepe. We both were very happy with our choices and declared the meals delicious. The amount of lobster and shrimp was really generous, in the most tender crepe I have ever had. It was lightly covered in hollandaise not smothered which was perfect. The food was piping hot and beautifully presented.

SERVICE: Instant acknowledgement of our reservation upon arrival as opposed to some places where the maître d' stares at the computer screen, doesn't say hello, and can't quite seem to find your name or the time you tell them you are reserved for. I was seated immediately even though my friend had not arrived yet. The waitress "Frenchy" was pleasant and efficient. Lovely smile, great attitude, and didn't rush us to order. Our food came out so quickly when we did order that at first we thought they were delivering to the wrong table.

Will definitely return to O.E.B. The menu is so interesting and I would like to try multiple dishes that they...

Beautiful location with a cool patio, great service, and tasty OEB classics make this our go-to brunch spot in the NW. ——— We stopped by for brunch on a random Friday at about noon; the restaurant was pretty busy but we were seated right away. It might be good idea to book a reservation or get yourself on the waitlist (on their website) beforehand. Service was friendly and the drinks menu was decent; there was a variety of mimosas and mixed drinks, but the beer menu was a little scarce in my opinion. On the food menu you can expect to find the OEB classics; we had the Laks & Laks of Bagel with 1/4 oz sturgeon caviar, a side of smoked bacon and the duck fat fried waffles fries/pommes gaufrettes, and the Get Shorty Rib poutine. The bagel was delicious; smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and caviar on a crisp outside but chewy bagel makes for an instant classic. I enjoyed the short rib poutine; perfectly done short rib cubes and soft poached eggs, (you get a choice of soft, medium, or hard) paired with crispy duck fat potato wedges/home fries and a decadent hollandaise sauce. The side of bacon was great with the bagel, and the waffle fries were amazingly crispy; honestly better than Carls Jr. waffle fries in my opinion. We were too full for “dessert” but next time we’ll definitely try the French Toast Trifle. Such a convenient location with great food and service as you would expect from OEB. Highly recommend it!

The food at OEB, no matter which location you go to, is consistently delicious! I have been to this location several times now and have no complaints about the food at all. The 'pierogies & duck' as well as the 'gold digga' are both great and taste very much like the other locations in Calgary. Solid choices if you like tender duck or crunchy soft potatoes with crispy yet succulent pork. Recently, I tried the Korean bulgogi eggs Benny - the eggs are poached well and the beef is tender and marinated to a light sweet flavor. If not thinking about the food, the service at this location can be hit and miss. We have sat for about 15 minutes before being asked if we want water before. This was followed by no delivery of said water (and at the end of the meal, never receiving our coffee). It is difficult get these items when no one checks on you for the meal. We had to ask the person who brought our plates of food to get us water. At the end, there was still a charge for the coffee but eventually this was taken off the bill (sparing the details, there was a delay to get our bill again). It seemed painfully slow at each step to get something. Maybe this is a product of having a lot of turnover of staff recently but I am just guessing. Still a highly recommended place for brunch but be wary about the service you may (or may not) receive.

Having dined at a couple of OEB locations in the city, this one in University District definitely serves better food. The male host, who I believe may have been the manager, could have been more friendly but our server was pretty nice. We came for lunch just after 1pm and was seated within 10 minutes without a reservation. The dining area isn't too big, so it can feel like you're quite close to the tables next to you. What caught our eye and made us want to try out OEB is their beef tallow fried potatoes - a much better alternative to seed oils. I opted for the Gold Digga poutine bowl and he chose the Montreal smoked meat benny. I couldn't help but notice how aesthetically pleasing the plating was when our food came. The large potato wedges were fried to a perfect golden brown and there was a generous amount of sauce and cheese curds in the breakfast poutine. It could have used a few more pieces of pork to balance out the abundance of potatoes though, which felt a bit heavy half way through. He enjoyed his benny but noted the croissant was a little on the small side. Overall, it's a place I'd recommend for a nice breakfast, brunch, or lunch.
