Shawarma Ave — Restaurant in Calgary

I have thought about this review for a couple of months but it still bothers me. I LOVED this place pre-pandemic. The food and service was so wonderful. I returned before Christmas and ordered a salad, drinks, a side and a wrap for my children to share. My bill was $29 and I tipped $6.50ish (I didn't intent to tip that much but accidently hit a wrong button and figured since they were always so nice what the heck). The guy charged me then I moved down to the salad bar. The woman asked me if I wanted this and that, and I said "sure, I'll have some of everything" (meaning everything it comes with). She glared at me. Then she glared intensely at the young man who charged me at the till. He walked over and she said something I couldnt understand to him in an annoyed tone and he promptly ran away like he was embarrassed. He returned a moment later and informed me that my salad doesn't come with "everything" but they'll give me the additional couple of pickled items this time anyway. I clarified that I was happy to receive whatever it came with. I really just meant that she didn't have to inquire whether every item is OK with me. It ruined the entire meal and experience for me. This interaction made me feel like they thought I was some cheap jerk trying to get more than I paid for. And to tip someone that much who does the same style work as Subway who dont even get tips....for her to get that blatently rude over a few cents of pickles like that... sadly I won't be...

I recently ordered from Shawarma Ave and had a small issue with my order. I spoke with Freid, and honestly, his customer service blew me away. I told him multiple times not to worry about it, but he insisted on making it right and personally delivered the corrected order himself.

What really stood out was how proactive and genuine he was. Unlike my past experience with one of Calgary’s “famous” shawarma places—where they just told me to come into the store for a refund (not helpful at all)—Freid went above and beyond without hesitation.

He even brought me a drink with my meal, despite me telling him it wasn’t necessary. That level of care and professionalism is rare these days.

I’m honestly a bit embarrassed by how amazing the customer service was—it’s not something you experience often. If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. Highly recommend Shawarma Ave, and major thanks to Freid for...
