A visit to Social Beer Haus should have been a relaxing night out with friends, sipping on quality brews, and engaging in warm conversation. Regrettably, the experience we had was quite the opposite.
Upon entering, we were met with an intensely crowded, chaotic scene that was more jarring than jovial. Any semblance of a 'social' atmosphere was drowned out by the blaring music and rowdy patrons. The decor was appealing, but the ambiance left a lot to be desired.
But the true pitfall of the night was the service. Or, I should say, the lack thereof. It took an eternity to flag down a server amidst the chaos. Our bartender seemed more occupied with their smartphone than attending to customers. A 'hello' or a welcoming smile was too much to ask, it seemed.
When we finally managed to place our orders, they were delivered haphazardly. Drinks were forgotten, food orders were mixed up, and one of my friends received a completely different beer than what he ordered. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, they reacted with indifference and didn't bother to correct the mistake.
Inquiries about the different beers on offer were met with shrugs and vague responses, it was as if they hadn't even tasted or knew anything about what they were serving. The entire experience felt impersonal and careless.
The food we did receive was subpar at best. The pretzels tasted as though they were a few days old, and the bratwurst lacked the robust flavor I'd expect from a German-inspired establishment. And the beer cheese? It had the consistency and flavor profile of canned nacho cheese.
The lack of cleanliness added another layer of dissatisfaction to our experience. From sticky tables to grimy restrooms, it was clear that cleanliness wasn't a priority.
In summary, Social Beer Haus was a disappointment on several levels, with poor service being the standout offender. The experience was far from 'social', and the service was a stark contrast to the 'haus' hospitality one would expect. Save your time, money, and palate for a place that values customer service as much as they do their brews.
It seems "Social Beer Haus" missed the memo on what 'service with a...
Read moreAbsolutely AMAZING! Went there today for the first time - pulled pork sandwich, to die for!!! A GREAT portion of pulled pork inside the sandwich, coleslaw (which was also in the sandwich) was PERFECTLY made which is hard to come by! I typically find coleslaws either really dry or the taste of seasoning/dressing is off. And from most restaurants i’ve gone to, they rip you off on the quantity of pulled pork that you get. Not this place!!! My mouth was full, and my plate had plenty extras that i had to fork feed myself with. Yam fries were perfectly cooked - not thick and not soggy. A good fry size and crisp. That aioli sauce they serve with the yam fries - to DIE FOR. Spicy but just right, and that’s coming from a person who doesn’t do heat. The bartender made us a special drink and that was also unbeatable. Flavour was sweet but not too sweet, couldn’t taste the liquor too much but had a little tinge. Great for a regular drinker lol. But a sneaky drink for sure!!! Could’ve sat there and drank 10, one of those alcoholic drinks that just hit all of the right taste buds. And the front of house manager (?), didn’t catch his actual position, talked to you like a real person! Not some worker trying to please you for a good review or good tip. I will definitely be going back!!! Was so dead inside for the quality of food, price and great customer service! We did end up having to order our food from the bartender (who also was funny and very kind) because our waitress was busy, but she was not the type of busy that forgets her customers. Bless her heart. She did keep an effort to keep all customers satisfied and helped, while doing inventory, clean up, and all other waitress job duties. My boyfriend ordered a flames burger with poutine, and devoured it within seconds/minutes, it is definitely the quickest I’ve seen him eat a meal. In a good way!!! Once that first bite goes down, you cannot help but want more. Am blown away with the experience my boyfriend and...
Read moreStopped by to try some BBQ with my boyfriend for dinner. We ordered the Everything is Bigger in Texas platter ($74) which includes ¼ lb of brisket, pulled pork, and pork belly burnt ends in addition to 1/2 a chicken and 1/2 a rack of ribs with 2 hot link sausages. The meats also come with your choice of 3 sides (we chose whipped potato salad, mac and cheese, and corn) and well as deep fried ice cream to finish!
Meats: The star of the night was definitely the brisket. It was so melty and tender! The pulled pork wasn't my favourite (I didn't really enjoy the sauce) and neither was the chicken (it was very dry, we only ended up having a few bites each). The pork belly burnt ends weren't bad (but tasted a little bit gamey? For whatever reason), and the ribs were okay too (although I prefer my ribs more fall off the bone type - though that's a personal preference!)
Sides: all the sides we got were done well! They gave a generous portion as well. Great staples to have with your BBQ. Honestly, we should have invited a third person to finish everything with us, but I was so excited to try everything! This is definitely way too much food for two people.
Deep Fried Ice Cream: It was my first time having deep fried ice cream and it was good! Great crunch on the exterior and creamy on the inside. A nice finish to the meal (though I could barely walk afterwards)
In terms of the ambiance/atmosphere, the music was a little too loud for my liking. It was hard to hear the person that I was with and even communicating with my server was difficult because of the volume! Tip: They have 1/2 off meats by the 1/2 pound after 9pm (this includes brisket, pulled pork, and pork belly...
