Well, well, well, where do I even begin... If you're looking for a unique experience that combines contrived dive bar ambiance with the drama of a daytime soap opera, look no further than the Unicorn.

Our party of eight stopped in for a quick one as we made our way elsewhere for a late dinner. It was a reasonably busy evening. There wasn't a table for 8 but two tables for four relatively close to one another. That wasn't a big deal as we weren't staying long anyway. Drinks were had, the bill was paid and chairs were starting to push away from the table.

And this is where the story begins.

A strapping young security fella with a beige moustache comes to our table and tells one of or members that there's been an incident in the washroom and that we have to leave. One can only imagine what that meant. Was there a fight? An OD? Who knows. Either way, seems like a good enough reason to vacate the premises.

Then we realized our table was the only one being asked to leave.

"Hold up cowboy" I asked. "Someone at our table was involved in this bathroom incident?"

"Yup. One of our staff witnessed the ladies from this table doing something in the bathroom."

Sherlock Shirley (we don't know her real name because she wouldn't identify herself when we asked who made the accusation) claimed she saw some girls ripping through some Peruvian snowflake in the john and reported it to the authorities (beige moustache). "Some girls" is key as only one member of our party used the powder room during our stop and by her account it was a fairly unremarkable pitstop, and solo mission. Did Shirley see someone doing something? Maybe, but it wasn't someone from our group. Hopefully her her waitressing skills are better than her detective skills.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a place that combines accusations of illegal activities with a side of being perp-walked by a bouncer with a beige moustache, this pub is a must-visit. I want to start by saying that I really liked the atmosphere and overall vibe of this place. Unfortunately, the service left me very disappointed.

When we first arrived, no one greeted us. We stood at the entrance for about 10–15 minutes before deciding to walk in ourselves. After sitting down, it took another 10 minutes before a server finally approached us with the menus. The woman who came over seemed irritated, unwelcoming, and did not smile when greeting us.

My friend and I only ordered drinks, but she made no effort to explain the menu or provide friendly service. Because of this, we chose not to leave a tip. After paying, she made an unprofessional comment: “Oh, you didn’t tip me. Next time, tip me,” while giving us an angry look. This was incredibly uncomfortable and disrespectful.

From the very beginning her attitude was unpleasant, and her comment made the experience even worse. Whether it was poor service or something else, it felt discriminatory as well (we are brown), which made us feel even more unwelcome. Tipping is not mandatory especially when the service was below expectations.

For context, this server was an older white woman working on September 7th at around 8-9 pm. I regret not catching her name, but I hope management addresses this. Proper training would go a long way in improving the service and ensuring guests feel valued.
