Was told by a co worker that this was his favorite restaurant in the city, with all the hype we decided to take him up on the offer and give it a shot. Be warned this is a different dining experience and you will probably be at the restaurant for two to three hours depending on what you order. First I must say I loved the décor, the name of the restaurant is accurate as the interior really feels like a tent . Now on to the food, my partner and I decided to both order a sultans feast, the feast starts with a lentil soup , the soup was average with a nice tomato based broth, when you complete the soup the staff will then bring out the salad, the salad is served very cold I noticed, with a mixture of different flavors and ingredients, the highlight of the salad for me was the beets , they were incredibly tender, the carrots I didn't particularly enjoy and the remainder reminded of a Moroccan take on salsa. Upon completion of the salad staff will bring out the appetizers as included with the feast, I ordered the sausage mergez appetizer and my partner ordered the shrimp briq, the sausages reminded me of an egg roll but with a sausage inside, and I must admit I was envious of the shrimp pastry that my partner had ordered, the shrimp paired very nicely with the pastry and assortment of Moroccan spice. Now on to the main course, my partner and I both ordered the Lamb kebab specialties the lamb was nicely cooked and for me the highlight of the plate was the perfectly cooked spiced couscous underneath I was surprised as I normally don't care for cous cous. Now for me the highlight of the entire night was the dessert served after the feast accompanied by the mint Moroccan tea, I highly recommended the mouse and tea, it was a perfect combination and great ending to a decent meal.
UPDATE - EDIT , I was speaking with my colleague this morning discussing our dinner, and he informed me on his bill he was charged 48$ for two pots of tea, now the tea was great but at 6$ per person per cup it adds up, I initially thought the tea pot was 6$ not each individual glass, definitely wouldn't have ordered a second tea pot knowing it costs 24$. Not to thrilled about an...
Read moreEnveloped in your tented table with all kinds of Morrocan designed materials surrounding you it's easy to relax and begin this truly unique experience. There are other similar restaurants out there but Sultan's Tent gets five stars! Our server, Alicia set the tone with her cheerful knowledgeable experience which would make our feast most enjoyable. There were five of us and we wanted to try a little of several items. After Alicia poured orange blossom water over our hands we passed around two bowls of lentil based Harira soup after our cocktails. The appetizers we chose were - Spinach briq and shrimp briq, Moroccan vegetable salads and felfla broiled green pepper salad. Next time I want a spinach briq all to myself! Our entree was Couscous Royal for 3 and the Cornish game hen tajine with dried plums, almonds and honey. It's very sweet and a little went a long way on my taste buds. Some of our friends had an easier time of eating with their fingers as is traditionally but I used a fork. Every morsal has such depth of flavor. We finished our meal with more handwashing and a delicious triangle pastry filled with almonds called braewat. One guest enjoyed the vanilla ice cream covered in mango sauce topped with a mint leaf. We sang Happy Birthday to my cousin at the end which made the end of a great meal truly special. Reserve your table today and settle in to a memorable meal at Sultan's...
Read moreWe went here on a friend’s recommendation and I have to admit I was nervous. I have a lot of allergies and food sensitivities and going out can be challenging. I am so, so glad we went to the Sultan’s Tent because it wasn’t just dinner, it was an incredible experience all around.
Our server Yanise (she was truly delightful) told us a lot about Moroccan culture throughout our time there, from having our hands washed in silver trays with orange blossom water, and her meal recommendations, and her astute awareness and sensitivity to our needs, pure perfection!!
The atmosphere is absolutely sublime, comfy, intimate seating, drapes and lanterns, it was all so beautiful.
And the food!! The flavour and presentation was absolute magnificence!! All four of us had superb meals, I can barely describe in words how delicious everything was. I was eating as slowly as I could because I never wanted it to end! I had the Sweet Chicken Tajine, and the chocolate mouse. I will be dreaming about it until I go back 😂🥰🎉
If you live within a days drive, it’s worth the trip. Make a reservation, and do this for yourself!! This should be part of every trip to Calgary. If you live in Calgary, go here as often as possible. We will definitely be back!!!
All the stars!!!!⭐️...
