My partner and I had brunch for the first time at the Sweatered Hen on a whim and it was incredible. Firstly the staff was incredibly friendly. We were welcomed with a smile and our server asked if it was our first time there and then proceeded to answer any questions we had about the menu.
The atmosphere was very every pleasant. The dark walls mixed with the earthy accents of wood trim felt very cozy and inviting.
And now for the main course. The food was unbelievable. I had the Huevos Ranchero and my partner had the Henny Benny. The hollandaise sauce is phenomenal. We both agreed it was the best we've ever had. It didn't seem as heavy as other hollandaise sauce but the flavor is unbeatable. I'm usually a fast eater but the food was of such a high quality and taste that I ate slower than I ever have before, savouring every last bite and fighting the urge to lick my plate clean in front of a packed house.
10 out of 10 on all criteria. We will definitely be back for brunch again. We were also informed that they are now open for supper on Thursday to Saturday, serving from scratch pizza and pastas and we will definitely be trying that as well.

Read moreI ordered a Sunshine Punch (no alcoholic for $6.5), a Lemon Saskatoon Scone ($4) and a Henny Benny ($20.5). My friends ordered a Lavender Fizz ($5.5) and the Spicy Fried Chicken ($21.50).
They 100% nailed the drinks. While the Sunshine Punch was light and refreshing, I actually preferred the taste and sweetness level of the Lavender Fizz. You can also add alcohol to these drinks as you wish.
The absolute star of this brunch was the warm Lemon Saskatoon Scone, seriously one of the best scones I’ve ever had. I need that recipe please!
The Henny Benny was decent, but nothing note worthy. I appreciate the house made hollandaise sauce, the choice of pecorino cheese and the seasoning in the hash browns. However, no amount of seasoning can cover up the taste of frozen hash browns.
I would expect for a $20+ dish to be served with at least house cut potatoes. In addition, my friend shared with me that his Spicy Chicken was not spicy.
This spot definitely has potential. It’s in a very bustling area and there’s only a few things I would change with the dish. However, I did find service lacking in attentiveness despite being slow and having an adequate...
Read moreWe visited The Sweatered Hen for the first time and, as avid brunch enthusiasts, were excited to try it out. The food was absolutely delectable! The spiced chicken waffles were bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced, and the huevos rancheros had just the right kick. The kitchen truly delivered an exceptional meal.
However, the service left a bit to be desired. Our server wiped down our table in front of us but didn’t clear away the crumbs, even after returning several times. It took about 20 minutes before our order was taken, which we understood given how busy it was, but it was clear the staff was stretched thin. There were 3-4 uncleared tables nearby, which was a bit unpleasant to see while we dined.
Additionally, our server forgot to bring our water refills, and when our food arrived, we weren’t checked on until much later—about halfway through our meal—after we glanced her way. While these issues didn’t overshadow the fantastic food, a little more attention to service and staffing would truly elevate the experience.
We would come back because the food was incredible, but some improvements to the service would make it even...
