I am posting this on behalf of a close friend of mine, who has given me permission, but does not want to write this herself because the experience was so unpleasant and hurtful. My friend has been frequenting Pho Galaxy for several months and had previously cited it as not only a favourite restaurant but a preferred place in Chilliwack overall. When my friend was in the restaurant today, she was pulled aside by one of the wait staff who informed her, quietly, "my boss doesn't like it when you come here because you take up a table for too long."
My friend frequently comes in, orders a meal, and enjoys it for 2 hours. There's no displayed time limit for a table, which at the very least suggests that they don't regularly enforce any. My point is this: no one came to her directly and openly said "you are not allowed to stay here for 2 full hours." I know WHY no one said this - it's a very rude way to treat a customer. And when you say these things out loud in front of other customers, they might hear you, and think, "wow, this is an unwelcoming place - I don't plan to come here again either." They did not want to own this opinion, because they knew it would be rightly judged by others.
Instead, these gossipy cowards chose to whisper and hint and shame my friend into quietly leaving. "We can't tell you to go, but we can tell you you're not welcome. We can't force you to leave, but we can make it awkward to stay. We will, if forced, continue to serve you, but don't confuse our obligation for genuine respect."
I certainly can't draw any conclusions about what motivated this negative opinion of my friend - we have eaten together many times and she is unfailingly polite, considerate, and tips generously - but I will offer the information that she is a Black-identified femme-presenting person of colour and size. And it doesn't escape my notice that delivering the news to her directly and openly, say, banning her from the establishment for the crime of being Too Present, would draw understandable accusations of racism. Which could very well have motivated the attempt at, shall we say, "discretion."
Literally, to hell with them. I am trumpeting this. Grotesque, rude, dismissive, dehumanizing, petty, appalling, and yes,...

I was so excited to eat at pho galaxy tonight because they just opened their new location, I always loved pho galaxy but the old location was a little tight especially when I have to come with a stroller so we don’t go there as often as I would like. Anyways today we finally went to try out the new location. Now, we have to wait to be seated which is totally fine, the waitress was cleaning the tables for us to be seated and once we were seated it took them 10 mins to give us the menu. When I asked the waitress for the menu she just gave me the meanest look ever. There are 2 waitress there that always have the meanest most angry pissed off face. They definitely made my experience super super disappointing. This isn’t their first time giving attitude or giving us a rude disgusted face they did this also at the other location. Mine & my husbands mood was completely ruined from their service. As much as I love pho galaxy it is time for us to stop going there as the service is total trash from the waitresses. NOW! I get it, it’s busy, they’re tired they’re been on their feet for who knows how many hours BUT youre working in a restaurant, a NEW location, you know it will be busy, you’re in a costumer service type of job regardless of how you are feeling you should make your costumers feel welcomed, you most definitely shouldn’t make them feel like a bother as they’re walking in. I also work in a costumer service job and no matter how shitty or tired I am feeling I do not take it out on my clients. People come to restaurants to eat with their families to enjoy their time they’re paying money that they work hard for to have a good experience and eat good food. Unfortunately that was not what happened for my family and I.
Word of advice to the owner, you should try to hire people with more costumer service experience. It will help with your business. Both you and your wife are amazing people but your employees need extra training on their costumer service skill. I am positive I am not the only one that sees the...
Read moreWe've been coming for almost a decade now, and the upgrade to the new location is amazing!
As someone who's work in a lot of ethnic foods, I can safely say that ethnic service is never that of what we usually expect in "white food" places. When you eat in, it is primarily self service. Water cups will be delivered, but refills are self managed. This isn't upsetting for me, however some people find it a turn-off. I usually appreciate this style of service on an off-day or when I'm just not in the mood to entertain conversation.
The issue, for me, that takes away from 5 stars is... When I order a rare beef soup, in house, my beef never comes to me rare. It's always in the broth, and always over cooked by the time I recieve the meal. Its always been that way, and I never remember to ask for the beef on the side. In my opinion, well done beef should come in soup, where as rare should be on the side.
This is why I usually recommend to the take out experience, I find it to be a lot better. We aren't presentation people, we care more about flavour. So having properly raw meat, to dip as I see fit, is a lot better than having it served to me, overcooked, in house. We are also hard judges for peanut sauce, and have come to an agreement that Pho Gakaxy has the best peanut sauce, for our salad rolls, in the area! We've never been disappointed in their food or their ability to have it ready in such a short time. I would say they're on-par with some of the slower fast food places, meaning you're not waiting for very long before having amazing, and better quality food, to eat.
I'm very impressed that the prices haven't changed significantly, even after their upgraded space. I hope there's many years to come with this upgrade and wish them...
