We stumbled upon this spot while thrift shopping and thought we'd give it a try, especially since it saved us a drive. The place has been newly renovated, but the ambiance feels a bit empty. Service was a little off—we weren’t greeted or given menus, which made me wonder if they’re more of a takeout spot. I felt like we might have been intruding, though the staff did share a few friendly smiles.
The prices are a huge draw! They have specials like $2-3 slices of pizza and a mango lassi for just $2.50. I ordered the Chana Bhature and Chat Papdi—both were delicious, well-seasoned, and the portions were perfect! I couldn’t even get a photo before diving in—I took a bite of the Chat, and my friend took a bite of her dish (a chickpea curry, I think), because we were so excited to try. 🤣 She also picked up a slice of pizza to snack on, which was ready to go but tasted pretty average, like festival pizza.
We tried the mango lassi, which was lighter and a bit tangy compared to others I’ve had. I enjoyed it, but my friend, who’s Indian, found it bitter and not quite to her taste. At $2.50, it’s still a great deal, so no complaints there!
Overall, I’d recommend this place for its great prices and tasty Indian dishes. A solid stop if you’re in the area and want some good eats...
Read moreThis place is a literal diamond in the rough, something you would find on Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives. It's located in the no so welcoming or safe part of Langley City. The exterior is non-descript and you are welcome to a very plain, almost empty front of house. It's not overly inviting.
However, you know what is inviting? The husband and wife team that owns and runs this place. This is the ultimate hustle and grind that needs to be respected. There is a small language barrier at times but nothing a friendly smile and patience can't overcome.
The dishes are almost too fairly priced and of great quality. For our first go, we tried the Goat Curry and Baigna (Eggplant) Bharta. We also ordered some Pulao rice to accompany the curries. The curries were full of flavour, the goat was tender. The Pulao was a very interesting mix of rice and veg with nuts and raisins, almost a Chinese take on biryani. I know that description seems a bit odd but if you ordered it as a separate dish and went with plain rice for your curries, it's a major win.
We will be back to support this...
Read moreI had a really disappointing experience at this location of JMK Mahal. I was waiting for the bus nearby and had a strong urge to use the restroom. Unfortunately, they had a sign at the entrance saying “No Public Restroom.” I decided to go in and at least support the business by ordering something. I got the veggie momos.
The woman at the counter was clearly rushing and seemed more focused on chatting and serving an African lady she knew personally. From the way she acted, it was obvious she judged me as just another international student and gave me minimal attention, even throwing subtle attitude and ignoring me for a while.
After waiting, she handed me my parcel without saying a word—no mention that they don’t allow dine-in after a certain time (apparently after 9 PM). I was left confused standing there.
On top of that, the momos were terribly made—burnt and dry. I didn’t expect five-star service, but basic respect and decency should be standard in any business. This was not it.
I’m never coming back. A bad experience overall.
