First off I would like to share the positive aspects of my meal.
My food was hot and ready when I got there
Most of the food definitely is made in house which is nice
Portion size was okay lots of chicken, but dry
Now the negative aspects of my order. First off in their defence my order was placed quite near the end of the day but that should not matter if they are willing to take my order. Also seeing as there was a table still in the restaurant eating I figured great they didn’t get held up on my account to close early, which I wouldn’t have been surprised due to the horrible weather. I ordered chicken pad Thai and the fried spring rolls. I ordered my food when I left shoppers drug mart on first street, it’s legit less than or AT TOPS a 5 minute drive away. The lady told me my food would be about 10-15 min, awesome I thought seems like regular time to cook decent food so because I figured I had 10-15 min I stopped at Canadian tire gas station across street and filled up before heading over to grab food and head home.
I arrived to my food already waiting for me which I thought okay I guess it was just made quicker than they projected. Well, the pad Thai lime wedge I received had ZERO juice in it, was dry and flaked. thank goodness I had lemons at home. the portions of chicken WERE large but extremely dry, in fact the whole dish was dry even though the noodles seemed fresh and not all stuck together like a lot of places. Peanuts where whole not grated or chopped or much of anything just roasted and in whole or halves. there is NO flavour with almost everything unless you put the whole tiny ramekin or sriracha and chili oil on it, it’s almost as if they left the flavour back in Vietnam. . . I’m so confused how you cannot have heat spice levels to your pad Thai most places have levels of 0-8.
Next was my rolls which I started with first, they where okay at best, and I mean MAYBE a 6, fish sauce was ok at best had carrot slivers not lemon which was confusing, also I’ve never had such dark and almost over cooked and filled with what seemed like breading in those types of rolls before, and they are usually my FAVOURITE.
IF I ever go back I will be trying the salad rolls and the shrimp pad Thai in hopes of a better outcome.
This place is only marginally better than pho Lee down the street but for the price I would preferably go to mucho burrito or Osmows next door
A little advice to owners, if you want a prime example of how to make this food properly, Chag Noi in St. Catharines is a good reference, I suggest a trip to see what you can do better, immaculate bathrooms and edible garnish done with love!
not put on the plate so you can be up charged for barely edible veggies not fit for a horse.
also pho dau bo is delicious and the right price
For how amazing the aroma smells in this place I can’t believe how bland my food was I truly hope it was a one off ordeal and it being takeout near end of the night, but like I said, having worked the industry, that should not impact quality.
Also, there was no thank you or you’re welcome on my way out even though I said thank you, do you even want my business? Or positive word of mouth?
I have recommended this establishment to my family for this Thursday the 21st under caution to come eat for Christmas since we will not be able to be together that weekend, I hope it is not an...
Read moreI visited this store based on its high rating, but my first experience left me both disappointed and shocked. As a family of six, we arrived to find the store full and waited at the doorway for over 10 minutes before a staff member finally approached us to ask how many people were in our group. After I answered, they simply walked away without any follow-up, leaving us to continue waiting with no clarity on what to expect.
As we waited, a group of eight people arrived and lined up behind us. To my astonishment, one of the women from their group walked over to a table for six that was about to become available. The previous diners were still finishing up—one person had gone to pay, and another was still eating. As soon as the last person stood up, the woman from the group of eight took a seat, waved over her group, and they claimed the table as if it was theirs.
I immediately approached a waiter to point out that we had arrived first and it was unfair for a group that came in after us to simply grab a table without waiting their turn. I expressed my frustration, saying, “Why are we being overlooked like this? It’s unfair for someone who arrived after us to take a table ahead of us, especially when they didn’t even wait properly.” The waiter, visibly busy, gave me no response and walked away.
We waited for another 10 minutes, hoping the situation would be addressed, but nothing was done. Even my 10-year-old child noticed the injustice and approached the waiter to explain the situation again. We then witnessed the waiter turn to the woman who had taken the table, exchange a brief conversation in their language (Vietnamese), and walk away without providing us with any update or resolution.
This was an appalling experience. For a restaurant in a busy tourist area, one would expect better organization and a fair system to assist guests in the order of their arrival. Instead, this establishment failed to manage seating fairly or maintain any semblance of order. Despite raising our concerns multiple times, nothing was done to address the issue.
What’s even more troubling is the behavior of the woman who blatantly disregarded the waiting order and claimed a table in front of children, including her own. Such actions set a terrible example for the younger generation, and the restaurant’s failure to intervene only implied that this kind of behavior is acceptable.
This experience has left a sour impression, and I cannot recommend a place that shows such disregard for fairness, respect, and proper...
Read moreAccidentally found this gem of a place, after our group of 8 was rudely turned down by another Pho restaurant around the corner. And we were all so glad we did!
We called in advance in fear of running into a similar problem. The guy who answered the phone had no hesitation to take our last minute reservation. He even gave clear directions to guide us from where we were.
Only about 5 min or less away, we get to the restaurant where our table for 8 was ready with menus waiting for us. The restaurant was decorated tastfully whimsical which was a nice surprise. We were greeted and welcomed warmly (unlike our first encounter) and were served water right away. They only had 1 server that night but he did not lack on making sure we got what we needed. And took our orders as soon as we were ready.
But as much as I appreciate amazing customer service, I would not give a 5 star to a restaurant if only that.
So yes, the food was absolutely delicious!!! I ordered the Pad Thai and it is one of the best ones I've had. Flavourful and full of authentic flavours, very close or even on par with a pad thai that I would order from an authentic thai restaurant and yes, pad thai is Thai but it says a lot when a Vietnamese restaurant serves amazing Pad Thai. The rest of our party ordered a variation of Broken rice dishes with the grilled pork, Pho and several types of rolls (A1, A5 and A6), which were all plated beautifully, but was devoured too quickly to get any photos taken.
We will definately be returning here when we visit...
