We visited Pure & Simple in Collingwood as a group of 9, looking forward to a relaxed breakfast during our staycation. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing right from the moment we walked in. Before we even had a chance to properly step inside or say more than two words, we were met with an unpleasant attitude from the waitress. She immediately told us we’d have to wait to be seated because she needed to serve other tables first — which we would have completely understood, had it been communicated with even a hint of courtesy. Instead of utilizing tables available at the front of the restaurant, she arranged for us to sit at tables right outside the washroom — not exactly an ideal setting for a family meal. The seating arrangement was awkward at best, with the ninth chair practically inaccessible and tacked onto the end of the setup. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry, I was genuinely shocked at the lack of basic customer service and professionalism. Hospitality is about more than just serving food — it’s about making guests feel welcome. In this case, we felt like an inconvenience before we even sat down. This review isn’t about a delay or a busy morning — it’s about how people are treated. One individual's disrespectful tone and dismissive attitude have cost your business not just one group of customers, but likely more through word-of-mouth. The only caveat those times was that there is NO PLACE TO EXPRESS ANY SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS like allergies, but I navigated that by immediately calling the restaurant. Today? My first, second, twenty ninth, and my mother’s fifteen, none of these calls were apparently worth answering. So as a last ditch effort I managed to catch my Uber driver and give her this information - all of this information. The store’s response? “She should have indicated special preferences in the online order.” Okay so I’m really, really trying NOT to pull my hair out here; but I have already had this conversation with this restaurant! SO MANY DAMN TIMES! Which is why every single freaking time I order online I call and let them know about my food allergies. Unfortunately this time there were some in my kids’ food as well so that went over just great. It would have been one thing if last time I phoned them after ordering online they had given me a different kind of instructions but, no. This is what we agreed had to happen! So thanks pur and simple! For spending what was unfortunately the last of the cash I’d budgeted to spend on anything at all this week. Read moreHeard about this new spot in our hood .. love to support local .. such a huge disappointment .. got seated right away. The noise level is high but the group of 4 of us made it work. It took 20 minutes before we could order our food. I ordered the special French toast .. our food (3 of my guests food arrived ) and mine was a few minutes later after the rest of group started to eat .. I took 3 bites of the French toast and couldn’t eat it (inedible) soggy and not cooked through .. I told our wait person to please remove the plate from the table as I said it was inedible. She never asked why , or had the manager come over to chat .. we asked for our cheque and to have it split in half 50/50.. it took her 10 minutes to manually figure out the bill. She eventually arrived with 4 slips, each with different amounts on it .. she said she didn’t know how to split the bill in half !!! Our breakfast per couple was $70!!! No one came over to ask about my inedible breakfast nor did they offer to remove it from bill or even just charge half for it. My latte was warm and loaded with whipped cream.
