I was pleasantly surprised to discover this fairly new restaurant. They serve northern Chinese food, which is much more spicy than the usual Cantonese fare found in most other Chinese restaurants. Fortunately they will accommodate your friends who can't handle spicy food, just let the waitress know you want it not spicy. The food preparation is very freshly made. As soon as we had ordered one dumpling dish, they were seen stuffing and preparing the new dumplings. We ordered the spring rolls, dan dan noodles, dumplings, dry chicken with noodles less spicy (for our guest who can't eat spicy). The noodles were very nice, chewy and fresh (not limp and overcooked). The spices were perfect, the chili oil, garlic, pickled veggies, peppers provided a nice sauce for our noodles. They also have a brilliant menu presentation idea, a folder with colour photos of each dish, so you will have a very good idea of what is it you're ordering in case you're not familiar with a dish name. For dessert we ordered glutinous rice cakes, just delicious morsels in a syrup with powdered sugar. Prices were surprisingly reasonable, considering the quality of ingredients and fresh preparation. I just wish they would soon open a branch closer to Vancouver! Parking is in streets outside (free after 6pm). Limited seating and service capacity (only 1 person waiting on customers, and she worked very hard doing multiple chores). They did accept my table for 4 reservation. Hot Chinese tea is not free. They also have various bubble teas, but we didn't try that. I'm definitely coming back to try the other dishes. Highly recommended as long as you appreciate their...
Read moreDefinitely worth the 1 hour drive from Vancouver to get authentic Sichuan food. Other Sichuan restaurants are more westernized, but this little hidden gem tastes extremely authentic. The Chilli Garlic Dumplings are a must get. The dumpling skin was silky and the dish was so delicious and savoury. They are made fresh daily so make sure to try it before they sell out for the day. The Dried noodles with Beef Brisket and the Intestines with Chilli Oil are must try's. The intestines were moist, plump, bouncy, and very well prepared. At other restaurants, the intestines are usually overcooked and chewy, but this place has the best intestines in Vancouver. The Dried Noodles had such a great texture and was seasoned perfectly. For appetizers, we had the Chilli Chicken Feet and Chilli Bamboo Shoots which were both amazing. Everything tastes very authentic and fresh, and I love that you can adjust the spice level. My husband ordered the Chicken Giblets Noodle which he loved. It was extremely flavourful and he said he loved the broth a lot. For dessert, we got the Sichuan Zi Ba which is a sweet glutinous rice cake thats a little crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. You have to eat it as soon as it comes out, while it's piping hot. It was sooo good. We also ordered the Raindrop Jelly which was so nice and soothing to have after eating all that spicy food. Also get the Hawthorn...
Read moreI had such a good experience here today. I had the Szechuan Special Beef Noodle with hand pulled noodles and it was amazing. The noodles were a perfect texture and the freshness enhanced the taste so much. Great flavour in the broth and at medium spice I found it more then enough to make my nose sweat haha. Highly recommended. I also had the Pork Dumplings which were great too but the noodle soup stole the show.
The hostess was so nice and made me feel super comfortable as well. She actually came out side and welcomed me in because I was clearly trying to figure out the menu on the sidewalks and was a bit intimidated to walk in solo after having gone to an appointment nearby. This place is legit! Tiny and filled with locals speaking Cantonese with most everything written on the walls not in English. The main menu has English subtitles yet they are so thoughtful they had a separate photo book all in English with pictures they had hand taken of the menu items available. Even then I had to ask her for a recommendation and she nailed it. Then she gave me a free jello like desert with raisins as well which helped round out the spicy noodle soup and bring my palette back to earth. Seriously this place is 10/10. Will be...
