It's the place my husband has been going to since he was a child, so for about 20 years. It's his family favorite and we had to visit it during our visit to Canada. I ordered a miso soup, a couple of tobiko nigiris, appetizer tempura, and toro sashimi. My husband ordered a miso as well, sunomono, and a chicken teriyaki donburi. The food was good, fresh. My husband liked sunomono a lot, I like everything I ordered. Shrimp tempura was crisp and batter was thin, so food quality is around 4-5 stars. The reason I gave 3 stars is service issues we experienced and a bit high pricing. Toro sashimi was $18 for 7 thin slices, rolls and nigiri pieces are priced on the upper end for this type of food. Portions are in general smaller than in other sushi restaurants we've been to in Vancouver area. It seems like our bill does not reflect the amount of food we ordered. As for service, we were not offered any drinks upon arrival, so when ordering we asked for tea and it was not refilled until we got a bill and asked for a refill. The place is pretty cold, probably AC is running too high - it may be a good idea to get a sweater if you want to dine in. Another issue with service was the food prep time. Chicken teriyaki donburi took about 35 minutes to make and by the time it was served to my husband I've already finished all my food and he's been done with his appetizers for about 20 minutes. It would be great if food prep times were a bit more coordinated. Overall, the place is nice. Food quality is consistent. They have individual rooms and ordinary tables. We'll probably be back here again to capture some childhood memories :) Oh, and sorry there are almost no photos. We both were really...
Read moreThe food here is okay and the service is decent, but they expect a tip from you. And if you don't give them one they will shame you in front of your party. I literally didn't have any extra change to place on the table and when coming to get my payment for my food, the server rudely and outwardly made a comment, "no tip". This is a restaurant business, when you sell someone food, they are obligated to pay for the food that they ordered unless there's something wrong with it. No one is legally obligated to give you free money. You cannot expect your guests to give you free money. That is incredibly rude. The only reason why I didn't give anything was because I didn't have any extra change and I'm not going to charge an extra couple dollars to my credit card, but I don't need to be shamed. I have literally brought so much business to this place, I have bought both friends and family but I will no longer be doing that. There's absolutely no reason for a business to be rude when a customer doesn't give free money. I could have walked out of the restaurant without paying. This is something every business needs to understand, NO CUSTOMER IS EVER OBLIGATED TO GIVE YOU FREE MONEY. EVER. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SHAME PEOPLE FOR NOT GIVING...
Read moreWe had to stop and eat at this place during mid day business dealings. I was actually able to call ahead and book out a table with an appetizer selection made in advance. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere full of joyful conversations. For a smaller restaurant in a nook, they sure make great use of the space to accommodate a greater number of guests. It was full of people during our visit for lunch. I noticed upon being seated that the lineup had gone out the door within the 5 minutes we from when we were seated. We had gyozas, chicken karrages, and soda drinks to begin. The lineup I spoke about out the door was taken care of in less than 10 minutes, which I have to say is excellent service considering how busy the servers and cooks were. We ordered a wide selection of meals, including Chicken Yaki Soba and sashimi. The food was served to us timely and displayed beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed the Yaki Soba, and their chicken wasn't greasy like other locations I've eaten at. The menu options were priced fairly, and service is superb at this establishment. I'd recommend it to friends...
