A&W Canada — Restaurant in Edmonton

One of the worst fast food experiences I have ever had.

Started out good, we ordered 4 bacon and egger combos (2 chocolate milk, 1 Coke, 1 coffee) plus 2 bacon and eggers and 2 hash browns. The screen read the right order. We had to wait a long time for the car in front of us, not a big deal. We get to the window and we were informed by Humera that there was no chocolate milk, so we opted to change to 1 coffee, 2 cokes and 1 orange juice, which she acted irritated about because she didn't want to change the till, she just wanted to sub out the chocolate milk with white milk. After the changes, the total increased by over $3. I asked Humera to check to make sure that everything was right, and she was very condescending in telling us that it was because the price of the orange juice was significantly more than the chocolate milk and that it was right - she did not consult the till at all to confirm this.

We wait another 10 minutes for our order to come up and she gives us a bag with the 4 bacon and eggers and 4 hash browns along with the correctly amended drinks, and was trying to send us on our way. I asked her for the other 2 bacon and eggers and 2 hashbrowns which was answered with a huff and her yelling to the back for them, even though she took the order and packed the bag herself so she should have know they were missing.

As Humera was finishing up the second bag to hand to me, I asked her, "is there a receipt in there?" to which she replied with a short "yes" and, because of how we had progressed thus far, I firmly repeated "there is a receipt in THAT bag?" which was answered with "I'll print one right now." So it seemed as though she was going out of her way to ensure we left without a receipt.

Humera prints the receipt and hands it to me. I check it over and notice that there is an extra meal added on to the receipt, so I point it out to her, and she starts to argue with me about it. At this point, someone else comes from the back and looks over her shoulder and tell her that, yes there are 7 bacon and eggers on the order, so she needs to refund one of the meals for me.

So to sum up everything. Very condescending about price increase when asked to check order and never does. Tries to send us off missing 2 bacon and eggers and 2 hashbrowns, an order she took and packed herself. Acts irritated when I ask for the rest of the order that I paid for. Lies about the receipt being in the bag until asked a second time more firmly. Tries to argue about whether I was charged for an extra meal that she also never provided until another staff steps in.

Also, to top it all off, when I phoned and asked "hello, is there a manager on duty that I can speak with? " the man who answered the phone hung up on me.

I have been to this A&W many times over the years, but I will be going out of my way to stay away from it...

Update* So I think this place is great and they handle busy hours really well.

This part is gonna be about the recent review from Victoria Thao. I was the other customer she mentioned in her comment. Haha

Let me clear this up. When I went inside A&W I saw her and her daughter sitting by the tables. I was the only customer lining up and they immediately took my order. I ordered 4 chicken buddy burgers and they always make the chicken fresh.

They IMMEDIATELY assisted Victoria thao. She presented them with an EXPIRED COUPON. The worker KINDLY told her that “because it is expired they can’t accept the coupons”. Victoria Thap then said at other A&W they accept coupon even though it is expired. So the worker later on got another co-worker to explain to Victoria Thao that they don’t have any exceptions of using expired coupons.

Since Victoria didn’t like that fact she got mad at the “poor” service and she will report the workers and was harassing them.

Meanwhile, I am standing and hearing this chaos she is trying to stir up so I stepped up and explained to her that it is not right to get mad at the workers when they are doing their job. And if she wants to use her EXPIRED coupon simply go to the A&W that accepts it. This lady wanted to take a video of me explaining to her that she isn’t treating them nicely. Which got me so confused why she would even pull her phone out when she’s in the wrong...

Like lady it’s an EXPIRED COUPON JUST STOP.

They were gonna give you the managers number but you said no.

Also I don’t know anyone that works there! I just can’t stand seeing a person get verbally abused because they are doing their job.

Kinda crazy that my sisters who came in... didn’t see anyone at any of the isles other than two men lining up to pay for their gas.

The other customers and coworkers even thanked me when Victoria Thao left. Also, we all just laughed.

Hahaha girl get your lies straight Victoria pulled out her phone in front of me but never turned on her screen. Hahahahaha “orange screen”

Best fast food burger place available, although the price is way higher than the average and I also feel that I like dairy Queen's burgers way more when comparing taste only it loses to A&W because of the plathora of inadequacies Dairy Queen suffers from. They are slow and not able to compete with A&W's turn over time, they can't seem to ever get my order completed without errors, some days more than just a single error, and lastly the clearly less than adequate staff members are generally absolutely ineffective in their positions and I find them clueless to resolve a problem presented to them, whereas A&W does very well on all angles, leaving me with a sense of confidence that my order will be made properly by a person who actually cares enough to get it done properly and well. At DQ, when you're lucky enough to get the order done correctly, they lather the burger with a vastly larger then desired amount of ketchup and mustard, making it awful, and a brutal mess, whereas A&W is fantastic for the distribution of condiments and such. And though if all things were equal at the 2 places I'd immediately choose DQ, all things are not equal and A&W outperforms DQ by a large margin, so that's why I say A&W wins. Tisk tisk DQ, you have a great formula, you're limiting yourselves by not putting a larger wage for starting and continuing employment, you pay horrible wages, and you get horrible employees, thus cash flow gets impacted, if the money was enough to get some quality employees, you would have better cash flow and the very reason you can't pay more would vanish and the more brought in would compensate for the...
