I went on Valentines day where it was advertised as a "Chef's Tasting Menu" but was just their regular menu at a 50% upcharge which I think is quite disingenuous. The branding of Guru is luxury and fine dining, but that was not the experience at all in our wing of the restaurant. The lighting was either flickering intensely, brightly blaring, or completely off the whole night, and changing randomly. We were right next to a private room where there were a bunch of kids in sweats yelling and running around, constantly all getting up to leave, and come back, and leave and come back again which was quite disruptive. The person at the table next to me joked (accurately) that we were overdressed for the night which seemed like more of 12 year old's birthday party--not the brand and the price point Guru is pushing.
At the end of the night I was overcharged for a drink and let the waiter know, but he left for 20 minutes and came back with a machine as though nothing happened, and unable to wait any longer I simply let it go and paid.
Then, after a disappointing night getting overcharged with a poor atmosphere and service--the final slap in the face--a parking ticket. Guru says they provide complimentary parking. When I arrived at the restaurant I asked the hostess about parking, and she said she would deal with it immediately (something about a tablet?). When she came back 5 minutes later I asked again about parking, and she said she would deal with it. Then the manager (who was very friendly) walked by and asked how we were doing--and I asked about parking, and he said he'd deal with it. Then we were served be a different waiter--who I, of course, asked about if I needed to anything to register my car. He said he'd deal with it. 15 minutes later when he came back, for the 5th time that night, I said "sorry, just checking in--do I need to do anything to register my car?" and he said "oh right, let me right down your plate number" and he wrote down my plate number on the back of an old receipt.
Of course--when I get back to my car--there is a parking ticket. They did nothing about my parking ticket, and me and my wife's poor evening ended with a ticket.
I brought the ticket up to the restaurant, and they said they would pay the ticket for me that night.
Well, it's been a week, and I called the parking company and they said the ticket has not been paid for, and they no one has disputed the charge, so they clearly did nothing about it.
The food was okay, with the exception of the Guru Butter Paneer which was a truly spectacular dish, one of the best Indian dishes I have had in the city. However, it wasn't close to making up for the rest of...

Read moreHey, last night i was at GuRu Kitchen + Bar Ice District
I’ve never had such a frustrating dining experience. When one person at our table asked for water, they brought it to them—but didn’t bother offering it to anyone else. Seriously? Who does that? Water is a basic necessity, especially when you’re eating, and the fact that we had to ask again to get it for the rest of us is beyond ridiculous.
I just had there and eat paneer butter and dal makhani. honestly, it was awful. The paneer butter tasted really bitter, and the gravy wasn’t even proper gravy—it was more like a runny sauce. As for the dal makhani, it was so bad it felt like something you’d serve a child. I expected way better quality from you guys. Overall, it was a really disappointing experience.
To make things worse, the bartender who served our food barely acknowledged us. He didn’t check in, didn’t care if we needed anything when we finished d food and basically ignored us the whole time. The vibe was cold, unfriendly, and completely off-putting. It was like we were invisible!
Never recommend this place to anyone!!!!!
The fact that something as simple as water is an issue here says it all. Between the unprofessional service, lack of basic courtesy, and an atmosphere that’s just dead, this place is a disaster. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and I definitely won’t be back.
Awful experience at this @Guru kitchen + Bar...
