You will have to admit, you're getting a great mix of Egyptian and Greek flavors here. Deserves the lengthy review. I believe the owners are a family, in operation for about 2 years and you can really tell from their warm conversations that love goes into the food. The attention is not just a great service experience but a natural feeling of the intention they pour into what is hard work and quality food. Don’t know if it’s fair to say “service” or “atmosphere” or if it should just be called “the passion” expressing itself but you feel the hard work and enjoy the food more. The atmosphere was beyond any expectations as a result. Overall, the experience feels very genuine, making this my favorite place to eat in Edmonton right now. I am compelled by my first time here to highly recommend Pharaohs Restaurant—it’s a must-try.
The menu is small but well-chosen, all of what you would expect and want to eat in the genre of three cuisines, so everything is made just right. We ordered the platter for 2-3 people, but honestly, it’s enough for three. They did warn us and explained everything clearly, that you’ll want to save room for dessert. We were too full to enjoy dessert properly because each dish was so good—you’ll want to savor each one! Still, that just means you'll have to come back and try more and fit dessert. The Italian is woven in and fantastic! It’s a true fusion that stays true to its roots, without sacrificing authenticity. I’ve had good Greek food and homemade Egyptian dishes before, but I didn’t expect them to blend together so seamlessly. This is not Michelin Star but not your everyday home cooking either.
I know I have hyped it up and I clearly enjoyed it but it deserves this level of extended review even just for the next aspect I want to highlight. The cozy, authentic vibe is hard to find after the pandemic changed how many restaurants operate, but this one really stands out as what I only now innately remember was an excellent dine in experience pre-pandemic. Almost would not mind being stuck anymore on Gateway and Calgary Trail knowing I can just eat dinner here! The options in this part of town have not disappointed and many deserve a visit - but this one most of all.

Read moreI never believed in “food made by heart that mixed with love and passion” till I tried “Pharaohs Restaurant” in Edmonton, AB. The minute I entered the place, I felt immediately in home welcomed with big smiles and greetings from Cathy & Ibrahim; restaurant owners. Cathy is also the chef. The restaurant is super clean, well-organized and full of authentic things take you back home. The menu has all food that mommy cooked and prepared in home with recipes inherited from generation longtime ago. I ordered Alexandrian liver served with tahina sauce and rice. Never ever taste something like that in my life, best ever liver made under our globe. Cathy recommended “tongue of a bird” soup which made from small macaroni; not bird’s tongue, mixed with green peas, carrots and chicken. The aroma breaks into heart before tasting it. The first sip fills your mouth with all meaning of food pleasures, no need to wait till the end of the soup. The main dishes were 1) lamb shank with mulokhiah “nalta jute” comes with its special taqliah “garlic pieces fried in ghee” served with rice. 2) lamb shank with potatoes cooked in oven with red sauce. I was totally speechless and couldn’t describe the happiness I felt after tasting the main dishes. Cathy cooking style and recipes are extraordinary and fabulous. The Arabic says, Cathy hands shall be wrapped with silk” meaning Cathy has golden fingers. The dessert; nothing is better in this amazing environment than “Umm Ali” the traditional Egyptian dessert inherited from 1000s years ago… Cathy adds her own touch raising it beyond your imagination. As complimentary, Cathy offered pumpkin dessert; I never eat pumpkin but Cathy delicious pumpkin dessert has completely changed my mind and made me fall in love with it. Finally, as an expert sales and marketing person with +30 years experiences, I admit the amount of love and passion in customer services from Cathy and Ibrahim has taught me the true meaning of “taking care of customers”. This is my place when I am in Edmonton. Cathy and Ibrahim, I wish you both all success and progress in you business with all blessings from God and keep up these endless and amazing things you...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but I’m very disappointed with my recent order from Uber Eats. I ordered the Egyptian pie and the Egyptian sugar cookies. Unfortunately, the Egyptian pie was stale, and the portion was disappointing for the price. The Egyptian sugar cookies were inedible—undercooked and very bitter. I’ve never had Egyptian cookies that taste this bad. I threw everything in the trash.
You really need to include portion sizes on your menu, or reconsider your pricing because it’s not reasonable. I wouldnt mind the price, if the quality is matching although its ridiculous. I’ve ordered a few times since you first opened and had great experiences, but the quality has been declining. On multiple occasions, I received basbousa that was frozen, and the food was excessively salty.
I honestly hope you consider changing the cook or chef.
In response to you:
If you read my review, you'll see that it comes from an honest disappointment. I had some good orders when you first opened, but your response tells me everything.
Regarding the portion sizes, I mentioned that you should include them in the app. If I had known that the price was for a quarter of the usual serving, that would make sense. However, receiving a stale and hard pie that isn’t fresh is unacceptable.
You mentioned that I paid less than $20 and questioned what I expected. You could have responded in a better way. Does it really matter what I paid when it comes to the quality you are providing? Should I expect better quality only if I spend more?
Stating that Uber Eats quality is different from the restaurant due to delivery fees is not a good justification. The only differences should be temperature—hot, cold, or warm—not quality or portion size. Please be transparent about this in the app.
Thank you for considering my feedback. I hope you take it into account and make the necessary changes or...
