Recently A friend of ours recommended Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba at UBC, I can confidently say that it's a hidden gem among the numerous eateries on campus. I was intrigued by the idea of trying out mazesoba for the first time, and I must say, it did not disappoint.

Ambiance: The restaurant boasts a modern and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a quick meal with friends or a solo dining experience. The minimalist decor, combined with a touch of traditional Japanese elements, creates a pleasant and inviting environment.

Service: The service was efficient and friendly, and the staff seemed genuinely enthusiastic about introducing their signature mazesoba dishes. They were more than willing to explain the concept of mazesoba to newcomers like me, which I appreciated.

Food: The highlight of my visit, undoubtedly, was the Salmon Avocado Don. This Japanese rice dish, where all the ingredients are mixed together, offers a unique and delightful explosion of flavors. The dish included raw salmon, rice, fresh avocado and raw egg which once mixed it brought the savoury flavors and bound everything together.

Portion size: The serving size was quite substantial, and it left me feeling satisfied without being overly full. It's worth noting that the prices were reasonable, considering the quality and quantity of the meal.

Vegetarian/Vegan options: While the menu mainly focuses on meat-based mazesoba, there were a few vegetarian options available, providing some choices for those with dietary preferences or restrictions.

Overall, Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba offers a refreshing and delightful departure from the usual campus dining options. The mazesoba concept may not be everyone's cup of tea, especially if you're accustomed to traditional ramen or noodle dishes. However, for those willing to venture into new culinary territory, this restaurant is well worth a visit.

If you find yourself at UBC and are in the mood for a satisfying and unique Japanese noodle dish, Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba should be high on your list of places to try. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of their tantalizing menu...

Food is pretty decent. There isn’t much to say other than it is definitely better than most options on this culinary desert of a campus. But at one point in a person’s life, there is more to look for in a culinary experience and one begins to appreciate beyond portion sizes, taste, and price. A grown persons life is precious and fleeting, no moments of his should be wasted on experiences that do not reciprocate at the level at which he appreciates life. Food was pretty decent, but I walked away with little sense of fulfillment. This place is phony. It promises what it cannot deliver. Actually it’s worse than that. It promises what it won’t deliver. Don’t get me wrong, Chinese and Hong Kong restaurants are worse at services, but your expectations are set straight the second you walk in. But this place? Neon lights, customized color theme tables and chairs, and even uniforms for the waitresses (something the Chinese restaurants will never be bothered with), yet I felt like the team could care less if I wasn’t here. If you don’t believe me, come enjoy a consistently designed Japanese theme whilst they blast the list of top 10 songs from taylor swift and...

First time trying KOKORO I witnessed it’s popularity in downtown in 2019, and now it finally come to UBC. The space in UBC was relatively small and it could get crowded during lunch hours. We were seated without lining up at around 12. 🍜Tokyo Spicy Mazesoba- I added extra bamboo shoots as I would for normal noodle soup ramen. However, this is an unnecessary add on🤭The sauce it comes with is already very flavourful. I like chives and seaweed flakes which spice up the taste! The noodles are tender and thicker than regular ramen. Not as thick as udon though. It could get a bit greasy and salty when the plate was nearly finished. You can ask for a bowl of free rice to finish the 🍚 entire bowl. (I did, and I was stuffed) -they also have instruction to recommend you add vinegar. I tried, vinegar worked perfectly to get rid of the greasy feeling. BUT it doesn’t taste that good😂 🧋Matcha Latte- There is some matcha power residue. Not a must try item but very...

Lovely Japanese food on campus!! If I wasn’t a poor ubc student I would have tipped the waitress more 💔. Service was excellent and attentive and the atmosphere was open and refreshing. Came here with friends for lunch today. I ordered the salmon and avocado mazesoba, which was great but pricey. It’s not my personal tastes, but still enjoyable. Next time I would love to order the pork dishes because I looove the seasoning on it. I tried some of my friend’s pork and I might have liked it better than my salmon. Extremely tender and flavourful. Mazesoba noodles were chewy and delicious, and it was a generous portion. Don’t forget to ask for a free bowl of rice afterwards!! The cheese mazesoba was kind of questionable though. Where is the cheese?!
