One of the best authentic Japanese restaurants in Edmonton Canada. Located in the heart of Strathcona by Whyte Avenue. Been a customer since 2017. Owner/Chef Justin is phenomenal! Whenever I dine in his restaurant, I feel like having a personal chef that prepares my orders just perfectly. Every dish is made to perfection.

Most recent visits August 2020 Dinner Brought my family and we ordered the big bowl of assorted sashimi, dragon eyes roll and 4 bento boxes. Every dish is superbly fresh tasting and delicious. My kids and their partners and me immensely enjoyed our meals. Thanks Chef Justin till next time. August 2020 Lunch time Ordered my favourite bento box, the sashimi tempura As always, the best in town! Nice seeing you Chef Justin :-) February 2020 Sunday brunch with my kids As always, sushi chef Justin delivered a superb meal! January 2020, Sunday late afternoon lunch With my kids Ordered bento boxes, dragon eyes sushi, and beef tataki November 2019 Dinner with my brother Ordered the deluxe sashimi big bowl As always, the freshest seafood in a bed of ice. October 2019 Dinner celebration of my sister's birthday Ordered Chuka sesweed salad, shrimp tempura, and baked oysters for appetizers, grilled teriyaki salmon, and assorted sashimi for main dishes. For dessert, coconut ice cream. Every dish is so fresh tasting and superb. Thanks again Chef Justin for a wonderful dinner. My sister...

What a fantastic experience! The sushi chef is so personable. I went in twice over the last two weeks and both experiences were consistently awesome.

The spicy tuna Maki is fantastic - the quality of tuna that they use is more like what you would expect on the West Coast. The tempura is so good - the oil tasted fresh and the pieces were cut with care. They even do a small slice of salmon with their small assorted tempura, on top of the two shrimp and delicious veggies selection. I have to say - the prices are very very fair! I was able to try A5 Waygu here for the first time as well. It was torched, sauced and beautiful presented - one of my favourite bites ever. I had some questions about sushi and Waygu beef and the chef took the time to show me the Waygu and it's authenticity, as well as going through different types of tuna with me.

The server there - she is friendly, attentive and clean. The atmosphere is cozy and a small-medium sized restaurant that doesn't feel cramped at all.

I have only been in there to eat twice and I have to say that the way I was treated on my second visit made me feel like I was a regular, more like a friend than a guest.

Thank you for the wonderful experience - I will be...

First of all, I found the prices to be extremely agreeable. All the menu items were fairly cheap and still offered quite large portions. The tableware was very clean and overall I'd say the place was tidy and had a very cosy feel to it. However, I was a little disappointed in the food itself. Everything was very bland. The pork in my katsudon didn't seem to have any value beyond texture. The most disappointing aspect of the meal was the rice. It had no flavour and had a very mushy texture. On top of that, there was no consistency with the temperatures: a cold egg was served on top of a very hot pork cutlet which was served on cold rice. The miso soup was also room temperature. I would recommend this place as a nice lunch location because of the price -- I don't think that I could recommend it for anything more than that unfortunately. It might be a good choice for those wanting to try out Japanese cuisine for the first time. Sakana certainly won't blow you away, but it's a safe option if you're in the mood for a cheap...

I recently visited Sakana Japanese cuisine sushi restaurant in Edmonton, and I was thoroughly impressed! I ordered the avocado roll, snapper roll, and California rolls, which were the largest and most filling options for my dinner. The total cost, including tip, was $65 for two people, and we left feeling completely satisfied. The avocado roll was creamy and delicious, with fresh avocado wrapped in sushi rice and seaweed. The snapper roll was equally impressive, with grilled snapper adding a nice smoky flavor to the dish. But the California rolls were the real stars of the show - they were massive and packed with flavor, with a generous serving of sushi rice, avocado, cucumber, and crab meat. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my experience at Sakana Japanese cuisine sushi restaurant. The food was fresh, delicious, and filling, and the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great sushi meal in Edmonton.

The best Japanese restaurant in all of edmonton. They serve the best quality of sashimi and treat the ingredients with respect. Flavour profile is very clean and refreshing. A lot of restaurants will cover the “fishiness” of seafood with sauce, but Sakana skillfully tames that taste with yuzu and light wasabi. Their lunch and dinner bento box is well worth your money. But my personal favourite is the chirashi bowls. The freshest cut of sashimi with loads of variety and the perfect sushi rice bedding. For a cold night, I really enjoy their udon! It is super long and chewy, very fun to eat 🍜 They have weekly specials that offer a variety of new and delicious seafood. We tried this butter-y cut of tuna and last time we had sea conch sashimi! 🍣 Justin is very creative with his menu while offering a reasonable price for his customers. 🫶🏻 happy to have supported this restaurant since their opening over a decade ago!

Cravings satisfied! We recently had the pleasure of trying the Bento Box and Sushi Platter and I was thoroughly impressed! The Bento Box was a delightful mix of fresh, flavorful dishes, with the perfect balance of savory chicken, perfectly seasoned rice, and a crisp, refreshing salad. The portion size was generous, and everything was beautifully arranged. As for the Sushi Platter, it was simply fantastic! The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the fish melted in your mouth. Each piece was expertly prepared with vibrant colors, showcasing the chef’s attention to detail. It’s clear that quality ingredients and skillful preparation are at the heart of this place. Overall, both the Bento Box and Sushi Platter were delicious, satisfying, and a great value for the price. I’ll definitely be coming back!
