Tokyo Express — Restaurant in Greater Strathcona

While waiting for a family member to take a test at the registry just next to it. I contemplated for a while about going in (am I that hungry, would it be worth it) but talking about food got me there. I was skepticism at first since it would be my first time at a Tokyo express, but walking in I was immediately greeted with a smile and a question about my day. Then followed up with what I would like. I ordered their Monday special (the beef teriyaki rice bowl) and was questioned if I wanted extra beef which I accepted. I was then asked to seat myself and my food would be delivered to me since I ordered to stay. I have to say the food was way above what I expected, I got a bowl of well size portions and everything was neatly put together (I’m not one to take pictures of my food but I had to). The excellent service with the amazing food will definitely bring me back here whenever I’m around or craving...

We dropped in for lunch and it did not disappoint. The rep working behind the counter was particularly nice and helpful. He explained the sushi and lunch specials available. I liked my bento box choice but I did find the noodles a tiny bit salty and the veggies, especially the broccoli a bit overcooked. Not mushy or anything like that, I like my veggies less steamed.

The glasses available for water had fingerprints so we were given new ones. The table tops were clean and apart from a stack of boxes by the back door everything looked clean and organized.

When we arrived the place was empty then within 10 minutes it was suddenly buzzing full of customers dropping in to pick up their food orders. We chose to dine in and it was very enjoyable.

This Tokyo Express has been in this location for many years. I don’t know if it has always been under the same ownership/management, we enjoyed both the food...

I took my husband and daughter remembering how good this was years ago! WOW was I wrong! 79$ for a kids meal, a rice bowl, a bento box and 8 pieces of sushi! The skin on the chicken made it in edible. And the rest of the bowl was just dry rice and over pickled veggies like they had been sitting. My daughter’s beef and rice with no veggies had huge chunks of onions and the meet was dry and tasted old. She only ate some rice and is not a picky kid. And the bento box was just disappointing on portion size, the flavour was also bland, dry and so unexciting for the price! On top of all this we all got out dishes 10mins apart. Not one other customer during dinner hour on a Friday downtown! I will never go back and be sure to tell my friends! So disappointing because I remember this being amazing and a healthy...
