I was on my lunch break and wanted to try a well recommended local restaurant; I chose the fish tacos, and they weren’t close to an authentic taco at all: they were significantly larger than a traditional taco, the tortilla had not been fried or heated, and it was not a traditional fried haddock, the fish was also under cooked and there was no flavour at all!
When I tried to send them back the owner yelled at me immediately and told me to never come back, which I will happily comply with. He expressed that I was trying to scam him and had no idea what a taco even was.
As Guelph grows more diverse I hope we as a community invite authentic Mexican and ethic cuisine into our city. If you are a person of colour or like flavour I implore you to stay away from this restaurant. There wasn’t even cilantro or hot sauce on these “tacos”…
I have never been spoken to so poorly by a restaurant owner. If any food is bad at most respectable establishments, sending it back though taboo, has never ended in the berating of a customer. It is well known that comping the meal and offering a replacement for another dish is good and kind customer service.
If you the owner are reading this review I understand you feel I am trying to hurt your business or feelings, but I honestly just want ethnic food to be properly represented. If you need inspiration try beertowns fish tacos in Guelph- if you want authentic Mexican food hit up Kensington market downtown Toronto and buy some fish tacos.
Ps: please try some authentic Caribbean food too. We don’t have braised beef, and pineapple isn’t indigenous to the West Indies. I would be happy to make you some jerk chicken with my aunties recipe. Or bring you some ox-tail and rice and peas.
You know my name and number hit me up.
And please be kinder...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite lunch time restaurants. Today was a great disappointment. It was a wonderful Friday so a few of my coworkers decided to head to Lucky Belly for lunch. It is not uncommon for the place to be busy and bustling so we were expecting that. We loved the new additional tables and the outside patio. We decided to sit outside as it was a lovely day. NO ONE attended to us. After about half an hour we proceeded to obtain our own menus and we took our own orders and went to the lineup to place the order. At no point in time did anyone even come to see us or even offer us water of even just to say :sorry about the wait, we will be with you shortly" This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever received. After about 45 / 50 mins we just got up and left. We did feel bad about leaving but no one seemed to feel bad about us waiting. We have no idea if our lunch ever arrived. Since we only have 1 hour lunch for work this was such a let down, we had to end up going to Subway, within the same plaza, just to get something to eat. My coworkers and I are very disappointed in the lack of service received today. It was quite obvious that they were understaffed and management should have had a better plan in place. FYI we were not the only table that got up to leave. Clearly there was an issue and it needs to be addressed asap if you wish to keep your...
Read moreFirst time here and will not return. For the reviews this place was very underwhelming. Maybe I was expecting too much. There was just too many sauces on everything - I like to taste my food. The choice in sides while interesting, again, were underwhelming and for the price?? Wow, $8.00 for fries and some garlic aioli? There were 4 of us that all got a sandwich combo of some sort & 4 different sides to share so that we all got a taste. Mac & Cheese bites were interesting, the tzakiki & dip was fine but a little bland, broccoli, cheddar fritters (my choice) were not good at all in my opinion. The best side was the shoestring fries, they taste like the Cavendish shoestring fries that are $4.00 for the whole bag. The sandwiches themselves were fine, nobody went hungry but nothing to comment on. As for atmosphere, I gave it a one star only because I couldn't leave it blank, its a diner not a restaurant. Hard metal stools at some of the counters, Other table and chairs were functional but not comfortable. The booths are comfortable enough but squishy for a group of 4. Guess its the kind of place where you eat and run not linger? And again, maybe my expectations were too high. Service however was great! We interacted with a few of the staff members and everyone was lovely and sociable. The place was busy but no one seemed fazed by it or rushed. Many thanks for the...
