I visited Red Brick Cafe and ordered a matcha latte and a brownie. While I had high hopes, my experience was a bit mixed.
Firstly, the matcha latte wasn't as strong as I prefer. It lacked the robust flavour that I usually enjoy in my matcha drinks. On the other hand, the brownie was very dry and could have definitely been better. I was hoping for something moist and rich but was left disappointed.
That being said, the staff at Red Brick Cafe were incredibly friendly and accommodating. During my visit, I accidentally left my phone at the cafe. The staff found it and kept it safe for me until I returned, which I truly appreciated. Their attentiveness and honesty in this situation were commendable.
The atmosphere inside the cafe is quite decent, especially for students looking for a place to study or work. However, the outside seating area leaves much to be desired. Sitting close to garbage bins detracts from the overall experience, which is unfortunate considering the potential for a pleasant outdoor spot.
In summary, while the food and drinks didn’t quite meet my expectations, the friendly staff and decent indoor atmosphere make Red Brick Cafe worth a visit. However, there is certainly room for improvement, especially in the quality of the brownie and the strength of the matcha latte. If these issues are addressed, I believe the cafe could be a much better spot for both casual visits and study...
Read moreFinally! A coffee shop that has space to it. Not a hole in the wall.
Firstly I'm pretty tired of Ontario coffee shops. Many call themselves coffee shops or cafes but really they are either diners, restaurants, or an espresso bar, not a traditional coffee shop with space for people to chat while others are writing away like myself. Red Rock is the exception. And exceptional it is!
Food - I was blown away by the grilled cheese and pesto sandwich. I think it's only $7 as well which is nuts 'cause it's more than enough for lunch. They asked if I wanted their homemade ketchup. Now ketchup and grilled cheese don't go hand-in-hand for me, but I have a twenty letter word that describes how good it is: ddddaaaaaammmmmmnnnn. It's incredible and pairs with the sandwich quite well.
Atmosphere - Huge. This place is huge and there's tons of room for small groups, students to work, or writers like myself. Also a lot of comfy seating or normal wooden seat seating. Music isn't blaring so you can focus and due to the spaciousness, kids aren't echoing all over the place, distracting you. So fantastic.
Staff - Friendly, personable, quick and attention to detail. Don't know what else to say. Tip them at least 20%. They are as good as Barista's go.
Conclusion - This is going to be my go-to spot here in Guelph. I'm not from here, but I'll go out of my way to do some writing here thanks to Red...
Read moreOrdered food and drinks online for me and my friends. However they don't serve food past 3:00 and that is when we ordered. There was also no mention anywhere on the website we ordered on that food was not served past 3. Instead of calling us or offering a refund because they couldn't fill half our order they took it upon themselves to replace half our order with items we did not request. This is quite frustrating because we paid a lot of money only to have our order not be filled correctly. Please call the customer the next time this happens (the phone number is linked to their order account) and let them know their order cannot be placed instead of taking their money and not giving them what they specifically ordered. The food was good otherwise, I just wish I could have gotten what I ordered or have been able to choose an alternate menu option instead of someone else...
