We were in downtown Guelph on a sunny Friday in February and decided to stay for dinner. Diana Downtown was a short walk from where we were and I suppose its curb appeal helped with our selection. Their friendly and attentive staff welcomed us and showed us to their large dining rooms. One space seems to feature stone walls and artwork which may or may not be set aside as an event space while the main dining room is striking with its red painted walls and black trim work. Large fabric wall hangings featuring Ganesha are prominent mixed with some African artwork here. Washrooms are located in the basement and a ground floor washroom available for people with mobility issues. We started with peppermint tea and a Nirvana non-alcoholic drink followed with Avocado spring rolls. For our main dishes it was a vegetarian curry combo and a meat curry combo both with choice of Naan and rice. The vegetarian curry also comes with a choice of side too. All nicely presented and well timed. Excellent table service provided. We had to take some food home due to the large size portions in a friendly messaged take away bag. Moderately priced $$, great value, 2 hour street parking available. If you're in the Guelph area I recommend...

Went here yesterday for a birthday party. There was already a reservation set up for us so we were sat down fairly quickly. When we sat down, our server came back to our table and asked what we wanted for drinks and she got them for us. We also were pretty quick to order as everyone in the group ordered Butter Chicken, and I ordered Cheesy Pasta. Our orders kind of took a while...even the server had to apologize for it being slightly delayed. Our group didn't bother with it too much as we were too busy chatting amongst ourselves. Everyone got their food without any mistakes or problems, and when mine came everyone said how my dish looked delicious. The Creamy Pasta is really delicious to look at and eat! Kind of had a similar taste to that of KD Mac and Cheese, but that was great to me :) It also came with garlic bread and it was great to me. The taste, and presentation was as expected. Our server was pretty good as well. I think some people has eaten here before and had recognized her as being a new server. Either way, she did a good job. She was polite, and always ensured that our drinks were topped off. I would recommend. However, some comments from our table was that to be careful when ordering...

So back in 2019 I wrote a star review for this same issue. I felt bad, took the review down and just have not returned.. until today.

I ordered a Dahl soup. This restaurant used to make an amazing Dahl soup. It used to be homemade and made with love and perfect.

This soup was a joke. It was simply gross. Like really gross. A thousand times worse than 2019.

Firstly the only flavor I can taste is burnt toast. Yes burnt toast. Clearly potato starch was added or tapioca to thicken the garbage scrapings they have been reheating. My spoon literally could barely penetrate it, I'm curious what the texture will be like when the rest cools down.. probably more disgusting.

Are you new owners running this place that are just cheap skates that can't serve food with love? Or are you the same owners that just don't care anymore?

Last time you told me to call you and let you know how you can make things right. All I can say is just stop serving garbage Dahl soup.

Let me know here how you can make...

I’ve been to Diana’s for lunch a number of times over the years but completely forgot they do brunch and breakfast and hadn’t been for that for probably 20 years. I’m so disappointed that I forgot! We went today and the breakfast was absolutely phenomenal. I had the Benny Poutine and my friend enjoyed the Chappati Eggs. The hashbrowns in the poutine were AH-mazing. I usually like mine super crispy, but these has just a bit of crisp on the outside and then completely melted in your mouth. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was buttery and lemony and the scallions were a perfect touch. The service was kind, friendly and attentive and everything was super clean. There are a lot of great brunch places downtown, but I think this one gets missed because it’s slightly outside the core. Take the extra 90 seconds and walk down to check these guys out! (But not everyone all at once - I still want to be able to get a table).

We decided to make a quick stop at this place to grab some tea after spending the day outside with the kids on a chilly Saturday. 4 adults & 4 kids, we ordered 5 tea and 3 chocolate cake slices. Although the food was good, the restaurant manager didn’t have the smartness to indicate that tea being ordered was a whole pitcher, and not just a cup. We (4 adults and 1 teen) were served 5 pitchers full of masala chai, as if we were going to have chai for dinner. After raising our concern with the manager, he didn’t even share our concern and simply offered us some extra cups if we wanted to take away the remaining chai. In total we paid $76 for 3 cake slices and 5 pitchers of tea (which could easily have been 2) should the management had informed us properly.

The food was absolutely delicious, and SO many vegetarian (and vegan) options! My partner got a coconut lamb curry and I got the veg thali with bean and eggplant curry that were both amazing. We started with the pakoras which are super tasty but HUGE so we had to take a lot of food home (no complaints there). The daily curries change so we’re looking forward to trying more! Update: went back again and had just as good of an experience as the first time. We went on Thursday for the Date Night deal. This time we started with the chana chaat which was SO good. I liked it better than the pakora from the first time. I also had a thali again with aloo gobi and chickpea and potato. Highly recommend.
