We ordered the chicken shawarma wrap, the mixed shawarma plate and baklava. All for take out.
The mixed shawarma plate was probably the best I have had in Halifax in a while. It’s a petty I was too hungry to take any pictures because it’s presentation was great. It came with salad dressing, pita and hummus on the side. The beef, lamb and chicken way perfectly coated in the shawarma spice and in generous portions. One thing I will add is I wish they included garlic sauce in the meal.
Then came the chicken shawarma wrap. It was a little disappointing. The flavours were all there. But the chicken was a little undercooked, and the wrap was greasy.
The baklava was the highlight. It was probably the most fresh baklava I have had in Halifax yet. Although i prefer pistachio over walnut in my baklavas, this walnut baklava was a treat. It was bigger in size compared to other Arab restaurants around. Crunchy on the outside, soft and slightly sticky in the middle, and held together. I only managed to take a picture after eating the one half 🤣
Will definitely be back and trying their other plates. I feel like the wrap was a...
Read moreThe worst service management and behavior I have ever experienced. I told them I wanted a student meal, but after I finished my meal, the owner started behaving rudely, claiming I never mentioned it. Luckily, one of his staff members confirmed that I did request the student discount. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the owner yelled at his staff as well.
Then he told me that for the student meal, the portion of chicken and vegetables is reduced by half, and that I should have specifically asked for the “special.” My point is, if customers are required to use specific words, why not just write it clearly on the poster? His behavior was extremely rude.
On top of that, the chicken shawarma was very dry and had a bad smell. Maybe their business isn’t doing well, but that doesn’t justify treating customers poorly. I used to recommend this place to others, but after this experience, I will never go back or suggest anyone...
Read moreSeven peppers is the best Middle Eastern (Syrian) food in Halifax. But it is about more than the food, it is also about the kindness shown by the owner. He makes a huge effort to remember his customers, ask how you are doing and make you feel valued. They also always offer a free bowl of hearty, lemony, lentil soup. Another gesture of kindness that I am very grateful for. And because I am boring I always go for the falafel wrap. I hope to be more interesting soon and mix it up with some lovely chicken shawarma or biryani. But my trustee falafel wrap never fails me. It is a nice balance of crispy, well seasoned falafel, loads of fresh veg, acidity from the turnip, garlicky sauce. It is simple, well done, and it is everything a falafel should be. And the portions are big so thats never a worry. Seven peppers will always have my heart. Every time I go my faith in humanity...
