What an incredible first experience at Eliot & Vine! The staff were amazing - friendly, knowledgeable, and appreciative of all patrons being there. Extensive lists for wine, beer, spirits, etc. with local options available. We all chose the Dine Around menu (February is Dine Around month where participating restaurants offer prix fixe menus at a set price) and loved every bite! From the Ceasar salad with homemade dressing to the main dish choice of either the house-made pasta or the perfectly grilled medium-rare steak frites (both of which are menu regulars at this establishment), to the perfect dessert to end the meal, this dining experience was one of our favourites from start to finish. We think we just found our new dinner spot in Halifax!
Worth noting - as we were seated, the regular menu, which we were all considering ordering from over the Dine Around menu, changed. The menu was updated and reprinted beautifully on the fly to represent a new cut of lamb that had just been delivered. This spoke to us of the high quality and the thought that the management and staff of Eliot & Vine put into their business to include fresh, local ingredients in...

I had high hopes for Elliot & Vine, but the experience was a letdown from start to finish. I ordered six oysters as an appetizer at $4 each, expecting quality. Instead, two were so tiny they were barely bigger than my fingernail—an absolute ripoff. The sauces were uninspired, and when I mentioned the issue to the server, I was met with defensiveness instead of any attempt to address the concern. No apology, no acknowledgment—just indifference.
The main courses didn’t improve things. My haddock was fine, but completely forgettable, and my partner’s veal was tough and disappointing. For the prices they charge, I expected better ingredients, better execution, and better service—but none of that was delivered.
Halifax has a fantastic food scene, and I’ve had way better oysters and dining experiences elsewhere—including just last week at The Bicycle Thief, where the oysters were plump, fresh, and properly portioned. Elliot & Vine, on the other hand, feels like a place that’s coasting on atmosphere while serving overpriced, underwhelming food. I...
Read moreNot impressed with the service. We walked in and were asked if we would like to hang up our coats. We sat down, and saw the server offering other people hang up their coats for them. We didn't get offered.
We then sat down for buck a shuck oysters. Once I told the server, she said "we're not doing oysters today." The way we were told was not very polite or apologetic. There were still signs all around the restaurant for buck a shuck oysters. Why not take them down?
Other than being disappointed on arrival, and the subpar service. The food was good. Order the lamb shank. Amazingly tender and flavourful, but the rice was slightly hard, like if it was left out for an hour.
Overall it was good. The atmosphere was good, the good was good, service was subpar. Still not sure why we were treated differently. Also, remove signs of the deals, or let people know if you're not offering it...
