Johnny's snack bar, probably as old as the hills and yet I've never been. Luckily just the other day I happened to be in the neighborhood so I stopped in for lunch. Great patina! Only booths and stools at the counter, I love it. I ordered the hot hamburger which I noticed as a special though a dollar or more than what I saw on online but it included clam chowder so that was a pleasant surprise.

I'll admit I enjoyed the clam chowder even if the broth was a little gelatinous and the clams tasted a little canny. I looked forward to the roll but it didn't seem fresh and the butter was hard. The hot hamburger was interesting. The fries were fresh and hot. The sandwich was ample and the coleslaw was smooth and creamy. The gravy was fine if a little bland which was enhanced with salt and pepper on everything. The scoop of vegetables on the side was typical as are those that have been sitting, in hot water for too long. There was a particular flavor in that hamburger and I can't quite put my finger on it. I wanted to ask my server as I was genuinely curious. You get your pop in a can and it was perfectly chilled and served with a little glass for sipping.

The service is excellent. Sitting in a booth, looking out the big window in front was nice. The vibe was excellent, welcoming, comforting, homey. I enjoyed hanging out after I finished my meal and I was left to pay at the counter on my way...

Johnny’s Snack Bar is right at the top of my list of favourite places to eat in Halifax. It’s a true North End gem that’s been family run for over 40 years ! You can feel the love in every part of it. The food is consistently perfection, no matter what you order. From old school flat top burgers and breakfasts to daily specials, pork chops, fried chicken, and their incredible pan-fried haddock, everything is done right, every time.

The atmosphere is classic old school diner feel & always busy. Chris and Tasso, along with their sweet and hardworking parents, make you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The service is genuine, the portions are generous, and the prices are more than fair.

Although street parking for Johnny’s has been terribly affected by City installing of bike lanes, you can find parking at the forum.

This place has it all, comfort, value, flavour, and heart. If you haven’t been, go. You’ll understand why it’s such a...

Food was hot and fresh and a good value. My dad had the 2 piece of fish and chips and said the fish was amazing. I had chicken fingers and fries and they were quite perfect. 😁 Though I could've used some ranch dressing. 😉 We were never checked on(until finished) to see if we needed anything, yet regulars were. Busy night, but staff seem to be handling it well. When driving by you might miss it as we almost did. It is parallel/across the street from the Halifax Forum. Enough options on the menu to satisfy most anyone. Heard one lady say how amazing the cream pie was. We had apple pie. It was ok for me. Dad definitely...

Heard good things online so decided to pop in and give it a go myself. Right away, johnnys has an old school feel. Booths to sit at, or the classic bar along the front. I sat at the bar and was helped fairly quickly. Ordered up myself a western omelette. It arrived in decent time and was hot and delicious. The home fries were great too, have never had them that style, but they were good! OJ was nothing special, just oasis out of a bottle. Was a good breakfast, might have to stop in for a burger or fish sometime!

This place is a hidden gem. It is run by a family that works hard and are SO friendly. Everyday of the week has a daily special. I think they have the best fried clams in Nova Scotia! Their Friday special ft fried haddock and a bowl of clam chowder is truly is their specialty, it’s always packed.
