Agree that the .40 debit machine fee should be removed, as it is part of being a merchant.....So many reviews on this, so hopefully someone will listen! The food at this King of Donair is almost always a 5 out of 5, and their varieties and prices are all very good (especially their pizzas & garlic fingers)! UNFORTUNATELY, there always seems to be an issue with staff. That being said, something MUST be done about the 'gentleman' who works most Wednesday afternoons. I decided to comment because if the owner was around to watch and hear this employee, the owner of the establishment would sees problems galore. This 'man' talks to people so disrespectfully, no manners, rude, and sometimes when he is making something, he ignores the new "potential customers". I realize that this person is working alone, but he doesn't even acknowledge people who come in, but he does GLARE at them! He can't even say, "I'll just be a moment", or "Sorry for the wait, as it got a little busier right now".......ANYTHING to let the customer know you see them, and you will be with them as soon as possible! I really don't think this is too much to ask!!! This past Wednesday, I decided to write to the owner, because service today was just UNBELIEVABLE! Approximately, between 1:30PM - 2:30PM, I was ignored for seven minutes, and yes I timed him due to past experiences, but even worse, during that time frame that I was there, two different customers eventually left. One said she refused to be treated like this, and one man was sitting in the restaurant waiting for his food to be made, when the employee yelled something (food related) but the man could not hear due to the fans in the shop. Outside, this man said to his friend that he would like to "X" that employee for his rudeness and cocky attitude! Losing customers this fast within an hour, shows what the business is like during the total day. The great quality of food is only going to keep me returning so long, and then, or now, I will look elsewhere! Hopefully this will help your business....for you, AND...
Read moreBest pizza in Halifax! Donairs are also great! The thing I love about this place is the consistency. The pizza is the same every time, excellent! There's so many pizza places in Halifax where one time you order its good, and then, thinking you found a good pizza place, the next time the pizza is totally different and not good at all, KOD on Lacewood makes a great pizza every time! I love this place! Keep up the great work!!
Update......I ordered another pizza from here recently and it was absolutely awful!......I asked to be charged for extra cheese, as I do every time I order from here....and it was as if they went out of their way to put as little cheese on the pizza that they could possibly get away with........it was a complete disgrace!.....So I recant my above comments in the original review about consistency.......the pizza places in the city of Halifax just aren't capable of producing a decent pizza.......if there is one, I sure don't know where it is.......Hey KOD.......train your people to not think that making a pizza for delivery is coming out of their own pocket!!......Never again.......I'm making my own pizza's now......at least this way I can have it they way I want!........
Update:......Jun 17th 2023:......Gave this place another chance a couple of times in the past two weeks, and it seems they've solved their problems. Donair, excellent, juicy, delicious.......pizza ( works) awesome with lots of cheese when paying for extra..........not sure what the problem with this place has been in the past, but the last two orders for me have been really good......hopefully their quality control problems...
Read moreIt's been a while since I had a donair. It's been even longer since I had a king of donair and it was even longer still since the last time I had a king of donair and at at the restaurant. It was a rainy night and I had the place to myself. I ordered a regular donair and a Coke. Maybe I'm cheap but $12.89 set me back. I ordered it with little or no onion and I don't know how much was on it but it was the right amount. I had forgotten that the meat is so tasty and spicy that a bunch of chunky raw onions overshadow the other flavors.
I took a stool at the bar table and looked out into the rainy parking lot. I peeled back the tin foil and ate it like an ice cream cone. The tomatoes were a little cold and so was the sauce. I'm sure people would argue, but I don't think the sauce should be eaten on its own. There's a certain magic that happens when it warms up and mixes with the oils and greases of the meat. I didn't wait long enough for this magic to fully materialize but I did experience it near the end of the donair. Next time I'll know to wait a little longer so that all the ingredients can fuse and bind together to create something that's more than the some of the parts.
The donair tasted just the way it should and though it was reasonably packed. It would have been a nice surprise to find one or two pieces with some char or a crispy edge. As I savored the last bites, I couldn't help but reflect on how King of Donair has been a cornerstone for as long as I can remember.
I'll be back again sooner than the last time and look forward to eating it like an ice cream cone on a stool facing the parking lot come...
