Tony's World Famous Donair EST. 1976 — Restaurant in Halifax

I visited this place 3 times during my Halifax trip.

My first visit, I got a large Donair wrap - it was actually amazing! It set the bar super high. If I was grading only based on that, this would be a 6-star review.

Second visit, I got a Donair Poutine and it just wasn't special in any way. The Donair meat, which has a nice flavour, gets completely smothered by the gravy and you don't even understand what you're eating.

Third visit, I got a Donair pizza. Sorry to report but that was probably the worst pizza I've ever had in my life. It was dry and bland with a lot of dough and not much on top of it.

While the Donair Sauce & meat are top-notch in flavour, the service and friendliness of the staff was disappointing. I saw that the Donair Sauce is available for purchase in bottles. When I asked the guy to see the bottle before purchase, he was so difficult for no reason. First he shows me a small pack (not the bottle) of the sauce to say 'thats the sauce'. I repeat, 'can I see the bottle', and he tries to make me pay for it before seeing it, super strange. I tell him I need to check for allergies, and he still refuses to show the bottle. Eventually another guy grabs and gives me the bottle to check. To my surprise, there is no expiration date, no nutrition facts, no ingredients listed, which is simply strange in my opinion for any packaged, prepared product, especially a sauce.

Overall, I would go again just because of how good the OJ Donair wrap was, but it's a shame the overall experience differs much from the...

Taste for food is something I believe is a personal thing so I’m not here to complain about the food. I’m here to talk about how my food doesn’t even arrive at all! So I had placed an order at around 1:15 am and in the app it said they are using their own drivers to deliver this order. Everything’s okay till this point, estimated time was 40 mins and I waited, no calls or texts! I called the store and they told me 30 more mins! I said fine, I went down to the apartment lobby and waited for 30 more mins! No calls no show! I called them again and asked, they said it’s on it’s way!! I waited for 30 more mins before losing my patience and calling them again! This time the dude called his delivery guy and asked and told me that the delivery man tried calling me, NO ONE DID!! Then he asked for my number?? To give it to his delivery man?? So that he could send a photo?? Bro I thought he already had my number since he tried calling me so many times now he needs my number to send photo texts!? After that I finally do get a photo but it wasn’t taken at my given address!! I am hungry and I’m in a very bad mood going to sleep, thanks to their extraordinary customer service!

I wasted all night on these guys might as well waste a few sec writing this review. Utterly disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend any...

I have always loved tony's pizza and food in general in the past but tonight I has a completely different experience. We placed our order via uber at 5:36 and received our food at just about 6:45. I can understand being busy but when calling to get an update, my partner and I felt that the person who answered the phone seemed impatient. Once we received our order, it was just barely warm compared to in the past where it is hot to the touch, it seemed off. We opened our donair to find the plastic "prep-sheet" wrapped in the tinfoil with the food. The pizza itself was not terrible but had to be reheated. As I said, we normally prefer tony's over other places so I figured I would call to at the very least let them know that the prep sheet wasnt removed. The man who answered the phone when I called (after contacting uber first) was defensive and denied that my food was cold and simply told me to order elsewhere and to complain to uber, he was generally rude and then hung up on me in the end. Just looking at photos of some of other reviews, some have plastic and others dont which just seems very inconsistent. As much as I hope that this was a one time thing, I fear we will not be ordering again from tony's any time soon.... Incredibely...
