I visited to try 'the Ube Cheese Pandesal', and it was a delightful experience. The vibrant color was eye-catching, and the sweet flavor was a big hit with my little girls.

The price was also very reasonable, which made it even better.

The shop has a clean, white-toned interior filled with natural sunlight. There was a chessboard on the table, and my kids had a great time.

They also have board games available, making it a lovely spot for friends and couples to enjoy a relaxing time together.

Street parking is conveniently available right in front of the store.

The two owners were incredibly kind and took the time to explain what UBE is. The store’s name, Xena, is actually named after the owner’s cats.

Bringing Our Filipino Culture and Experience to Halifax

Recreating our favourite Filipino treats during the pandemic, we shared our unique dishes at a local farmer’s market with customers longing to return to the Philippines but unable to due to travel restrictions.

Meet Our Cat Xena, the Inspiration Behind the Name

Have you ever wondered where the name Xena came from? Xena is the name of our beloved cat (and business partner too, of course). Our cafe represents the love and affection we receive from her.

At Xena's Bread & Butter, not only did the women empowerment event offer an inspiring atmosphere, but the culinary experience was equally remarkable. Their main courses surpassed expectations, generously measured to fill our tummies to the brim with satisfaction. Each bite was a testament to the care and attention put into crafting dishes that not only delighted the palate but also nourished the soul. They offer a wide variety of meals from sandwiches, to rice meals, freshly baked goodies and desserts.

The drinks, skillfully prepared, added another layer of enjoyment to the event. From refreshing beverages to comforting classics, every sip was a moment of indulgence. It was evident that each concoction was crafted with precision and passion, elevating the overall dining experience. And let's not forget about their treats—freshly baked and irresistibly delicious. The aroma alone was enough to entice us, and with each bite, we were transported to a place of pure delight. Whether it was a warm pastry or a decadent dessert, every treat showcased the expertise and dedication of the talented team behind Xena's Bread & Butter.

In essence, the event was a celebration of not just empowerment and community, but also of culinary excellence. Xena's Bread & Butter truly exceeded expectations, leaving us with hearts full of inspiration and tummies full of deliciousness. It's a testament to their commitment to providing exceptional experiences that nourish both...

It was our first time there though we've heard of them for sometime now. My wife and I were looking for a cozy place to have a bite and chitchat time while in downtown Halifax and while we were driving, my wife saw Xena's so off we went. We were there around 1pm and we were able to grab the All-u-can-eat breakfast for less than $20/person. That's a very reasonable price for a very cozy café. The breakfast menu they had wasn't bad at all, but not the best, either. For that price, i can't complain at all. It's buffet and coffee was unlimited, so, yeah, I'm absolutely fine with that. Being Filipinos ourselves, we love the Philippines inspired theme of the place but with a contemporary artsy twist. The white walls with monotone black murals added sophistication and brightness. And its corner location adds great ambiance and openness, not cramp and claustrophobic even if the place isn't really that big. And to top it all, the owners spent time chatting with us. I always love it when the owners take extra time chatting with customers regardless of their busy schedule. I see bright future to this cafè and to these lovely young owners. We will be...
