We spent one night at this hotel in early June. We were at the end of a two week road trip where our only lodging choices were small inns with very limited services, we wanted to enjoy a full service hotel where we could get a good night's rest before our long three day drive home. We have had many wonderful stays at Marriott properties and were looking forward to our stay. ||We were very disappointed by the condition that our room was in. The porcelain in our tub was coming apart and there was very visible mold in the grout around the tub. Upon opening the curtains, we discovered very visible hand prints on the window that could and should have easily been removed by housekeeping as they were visible from across the room once the curtains were opened. Finally, there were two piles of tape on the wall where it looked like decorations of some kind had previously been hung. ||We went down to the front desk to ask if we could have another room given its condition. We were told there was a big convention at the hotel so there were no other rooms available but this room was not up to Marriott standards and the situation should be made right. We asked for a discount and were told by the front desk person that he could not do that but he instead offered free breakfast as well as Marriott points to put towards a future stay which we accepted. ||Two days after checkout, I had not seen any points posted to our account and we called the hotel. We were told on the phone that there was no record of points being awarded because we accepted breakfast. We strongly objected to this and were put on hold; after a few minutes, the hotel staff member came back on the line and told us we were being awarded 5,000 points. Considering that this hotel room was well in excess of $500 for the night, and that we had to call and argue to get the points applied, we were beyond disappointed with the small number of points. ||We understand that all rooms can't be kept in top condition all the time. If most hotel guests are attending a convention where employers are paying the exorbitant room rates, I could see the front desk not being motivated to do a whole lot to remedy the situation. ||But as leisure travelers visiting Halifax for the first time I really do wish that we had selected one of the other hotel choices nearby. The Marriott brand is not being upheld by this hotel and I will strongly consider other brands for future stays in other cities because our stay in Halifax was such an expensive...

Read moreThe room was clean and very quiet. Bed was reasonably comfortable and the people we spoke to checking in and checking out or lovely. And so for them I feel bad that I had to give the service only a three, I'll explain why in a second, and I gave the place an overall too because it's just staggering what's missing. We went to attend a show and we wanted to enjoy ourselves so we booked the room rather than trying to drive or get cabs or whatever later. I was traveling with my service dog and that was all really good like I said the individuals we dealt with that way were really lovely but typically it takes one person to spoil it all right?
The Marriott Hotel suffers from some apparent disease that has Afflicted the bulk of downtown Waterfront area. Apparently despite it being 2024 and the city having a significant number of residents and visitors from all over the world, if you're a vegan you'd starve to death. In an establishment the size of the Marriott it's just not acceptable anymore. So we called down to the desk to ask about vegan options and they put us through to the food and beverage manager who promptly told me that oh yeah there's some vegan options you can have the seafood chowder. Um.. Seafood is still dead animals so that's not vegan.. so his suggestion that for my main meal of the day? I could just have some kettle chips. So imagine paying $300 for a place to sleep and they essentially tell you you can have some potato chips to eat as a meal. If they didn't have any vegan or vegetarian options one would think a kitchen of that size could have made me something. It is really super easy to keep some tofu on hand and you can do amazing things with tofu. Like it literally cost like $2.50 for a small pack of tofu... and there are tons of vegan products that are frozen... I mean they can buy TVP in bulk, which is dirt cheap and dried, and then just add it to a pasta sauce until tender... it'll come out like having ground chicken in it. There's a ton of things they could do but they didn't offer... they didn't try. If they can't offer guests anything reasonable to eat I think they should have to rectify that by making or ordering something. I mean who would ever think they wouldn't have any options at all? They had us as a captive audience... we chose the hotel so that we could stay IN the hotel. The casino is no better. But again the rest of the staff were really quite lovely...
