Incredible experience! We had expected a lot from Edna as several of our friends had mentioned it for our trip to Halifax. Without a doubt, this place delivered. We were seated along the windows at the front of the restaurant, allowing us to watch the foot traffic on the lively street. The restaurant is long and has a wonderful wood and brass arch anchoring the room and housing the seated bar. We started with tuna poke and fried oysters. Both were fantastic. We shared the scallops and striped bass for mains. Both completely amazing dishes. The scallops had squash of all kinds, prepared in a several different ways. Bringing some savoury to the dish was cubed, fried ham bits. The bass was the special and came together nicely with bok choy, creamed kale, and baby red potatoes. It was mouth-watering. Just incredible. The portion size was sensible and we had little room for dessert. We managed to wrap our lips around a sticky toffee cake served with black sesame ice cream. Unreal. Our server was extremely mindful and friendly. With great suggestions from the menu (and things to do around town), our experience was made complete by the outstanding service. You must eat here if you are in Halifax.

Service was great and my wife and was happy with her meal, however I ordered the most expensive item on the menu being the the steak. As any good restaurant does they asked how I would like the steak cooked, I ordered medium rare. When the steak came it was cremated (well done). I immediately sent it back, when the second one came the lady who brought it the table made some suggestion about steak cooking levels being interpreted differently between different people (or something), anyhow 2nd steak was presented exactly the same, by this point I was hungry and didn’t want to embarrass my partner by sending the steak back a second time as it was our anniversary so accepted it but kinda suggested to our waitress it was the same. Shame because this place has all the ingredients to be great but fails on execution. Even if it was just because they were busy I feel they could have done more to manage expectations. Photos of 2nd steak.

This meal is absolutely the one to beat when it comes to our down east travels - we don’t think it can be topped!! We came in for an early dinner after a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. The staff were all lovely and extremely attentive. Service was fast and we had food at the table very quickly which is appreciated when travelling with a little one. We enjoyed the steak tartare and crispy Brussels sprouts to start - loved them both, especially the vinegar in the Brussels. Our little one enjoyed the trout which was juicy and topped with a lovely parsley salad. The dish that stole the show and our hearts was the steak - wow. It was served with fingerlings, mushrooms and a pea purée. Absolutely delicious. We will be dreaming about this until our next visit. Thank you for a lovely and memorable evening!

Okay. So. If you go to Halifax, Edna will be the place that Everyone raves about for brunch. While they arent wrong, their praise is not true etheir. If you have ever had brunch in a city with a huge food scene fill with upcoming chef (Toronto, New York, California...) this will leave you unsastified and frustrated. People from Halifax will rave about this place because it is actually the best place to have brunch in Halifax, but after 5 days spent here, that doesnt mean much. Edna have lots of good idea on paper but doesnt have the execution and time needed to make them shine. One thing applied to all restaurants I've tried in Halifax: stick to seafood. From Ambiance to Service, Edna gets everything right, except the Menu.

Had a fantastic dinner here. Excellent flavours all around. Started with the Beef Tataki and Brussels sprouts with peanut sauce as standout starters. Both had creative takes vs standard sauces. Very impressed by the balance of savoury sweet and tangy. The burrata toast though ok lost some of the wow of burrata with the pieces being a bit small and over powering the mild cheese. For mains had the Ribeye, Lamb Gnocchi, Scallops, and Halibut Cheek. All were excellent and great flavours. Cocktails were also stellar having tried the mezcal and tequila based ones. This place is definitely a bit of a hidden gem. Surprised that we were able to get last minute resos. Highly recommend.

Great spot. I will say we were a bit disappointed in our mains. We had a pasta dish and scallops and unfortunately they seemed under seasoned. We both thought that the flavours were there, but they were far too subtle. Lemon and salt would have helped immensely. So, that being said, our experience is subjective and the atmosphere and service were great. Seriously, our server was wonderful and prompt - very knowledgeable and a great personality. All in all, I'd suggest that people check it out and see what you think for yourselves. But I would be remiss if I hadn't mentioned our reason for scoring it a 4/5.
