Food Box Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Hamilton

We came to this hidden gem for the first time a couple weeks ago. The 3 of us ordered the AYCE fish snd chips. I didn't know what to expect on the inside of the restaurant. I wasn't sure if there was a seating area as from the outside it ss quite deceiving. When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised on the spacious size of the restaurant. It had good sized booths on the right side, some tables in the centre and on the left a bar and pool table, which my grandson loved to play after dinner. Now, the fish and chips dinner were both delicious and crispy. Loved the crispy fries! The fish was also good and crispy, but perhaps maybe lighten up a bit on the batter as too much crispy batter surrounding the beautiful fish overpowers the fish's delicate taste which makes one not want to eat anymore. Towards my second and third piece, I was picking off all the batter just to be able to eat the fish only, as the batter started to turn me off of eating it. Please don't get me wrong, the food was great on the first couple of bites. But as the bites continued I felt the batter was too much on the fish. Now , the customer service was top notch! The owner was very attentive and made sure our experience was pleasurable. We could see how the owner was super invested in making sure we had a great time and was really engaging and chatty which is a rare quality to see in the restaurant industry these...

Ordered Box #6 and the Angry Bird. Had a bit of a hiccup on the online site while ordering, but called the store direct and they were very helpful in taking our order. Delivery was fast (even though I completely forgot the time it was going to be!) and delivery staff were very pleasant. Just on the service alone I would order from here again.

Box # 6 (Haddock, Guinness Shrimp and Calamari with fries and a pop) Amazing value for your money! Hefty piece of fish and the batter was perfect. The Guiness isn't just slapped on either, you can definitely taste it in the batter.

Angry Bird (Panko Chicken Burger with caramalized onions, pineapple and ancho sauce) This bad boi was a solid weight and the chicken was juicy. The fries though... I'm a Fry Goblin and these were some of the best delivery fries I've had. They STILL had a gorgeous crisp outside just this side of potato chip crunch levels, but the insides were fluffy. Top Notch.

Food is good but wouldn't let use the washroom. Said that they were told by health Canada that they must close the washrooms down. That is true however essential workers such as us are allowed. The health board nor the government stated at anytime to close down the washrooms, only the dining in is to be closed. We pay very good attention to this. We have run into this before with a lot of places that are private and those that are chains and we've called head office of these establishments and were told that the washrooms are supposed to be open. The reason why is because the government and health board HAS NOT ORDERED WASHROOMS TO BE CLOSED, expecially to those who are essential. Where did you think the food you cook came from? Long haul truckers like us. Thank-you very much. If you're going to be closing the washroom to the public then you should give the truth as to why. Lying about it will get you nowhere.
