I have been travelling constantly for 45 years and never had this experience. I came to the restaurant and saw a 4-people table. So I asked the hostess to sit me there. There were other tables with only one person (some 4- and some 2- seats tables). She said she could not sit me there because the waiter was already overwhelmed with customers. I argued that the other tables were not at full capacity, and that if they had that many tables they would need to be prepared and serve that many tables and seats. And, I also mentioned my feeling that, as a father of three who went through college being waiters, they would welcome as many guests as could be seated. The hostesses went completely blank. As if I had described some crazy physics theory. I waited a while and finally ventured a solution. I would take that table and wait until the waitress was free. In short, I would wait for the waitress. The kids seems to be trying and they are polite and all , but this perception that working a little harder than what is written in the contract is bad, well, it seems odd. My kids, and a lot of other kids I know would kill for more customers. They would sit them on the floor, if the manager let them. What is going on with these kids now? Anyway, I took the seat and sure enough, the waitress came to my table in less than 5 minutes, and served me very well. I am sure she appreciated the tip that probably paid for a few bus rides. But if the hostess had blocked me, I would be hungry, the waitress would be poorer, the restaurant would have not profited, and the table would remain empty. Who gains with...
Read moreI had a couple of hours wait for my flight , I figured for sure I had time to eat. Having eaten at this whitespot before I knew you need extra time to eat. Very slow service. Well here I go, I walked up to the counter in front of the sign that says wait to be seated. As I stand there for 9 minutes (yes I timed it ) Finally I was approached by a young man . I said for one please . He was going to take me inside to be seated. I very politely asked him if I could have the seat just to the right of me . He handed me the menu and said " go for it " He then turned around and walked away. After another timed 19 minutes of sitting at the table with absolutely no recognition of me even being there , I started to get thirsty and hungry. I tried to get the attention of the very grumpy looking waitress. I got an eye roll and was further ignored . After another 7 minutes I finally decided to get up and leave. As I went across the airport and ordered myself subway . I watched whitespot and you know , my menu sat on that table for another 20 minutes until someone finally realized I had left . They then removed the menu. The worst part is that the waitress with the horrible attitude probably would have expected a huge tip for her subpar rude service. Maybe some training in customer service would help...
Read moreRecently had the opportunity to stop for dinner at this restaurant located in Kelowna Airport, enroute home after a week’s stay in Revelstoke. My flight was not scheduled til 11:30pm that evening and I was tired and suffering from a cold. Sat in a booth and ordered their club sandwich which was absolutely delicious but my appetite was just not co-operating. My server was very kind and attentive and offered to wrap it up to go. After a few minutes another server approached me, not sure if it was the supervisor or manager, that evening in March, but offered me some hot water with lemon and honey and said that I could stay, as they were not too busy, she even offered to give some to take away as well. This unexpected kindness brought tears to my eyes, I cannot ever recall anyone being so kind. After a little while, I headed to my gate for departure. As I was waiting for my late flight, the server from this restaurant approached me to say, that she hoped I was feeling better and wished me a safe flight home. I’ve traveled an extensive amount in my life, but the kindness that flowed from this restaurant has left me speechless. Think that pretty much says it all .. and I look forward to dining here again, next time I’m at...
