Disappointed and Confused - Chaos at Kitchen on the Ridge.
Slightly over a week ago, my family and I were excited to try Kitchen on the Ridge after hearing so many great things about it under the new management. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing like what we expected.
From the moment we arrived, the place felt overwhelmed. Dirty tables, long wait times, and a crowd of frustrated customers - whether walk-in, reservations, pickup, or Uber Eats - everyone was waiting at least 30 minutes longer than expected. Still, we decided to give it a chance, hoping the food would make up for it.
We were dining with two little kids, which already makes long waits tricky. After 45 minutes of waiting for our order, I politely asked about the status, only to get a vague response: “It’s probably being cooked right now.” Three minutes later, I asked again - same response, no real update. It was clear the staff was completely overwhelmed, struggling to keep track of orders. After nearly an hour of waiting, with two hungry kids on the verge of a meltdown, we had no choice but to leave.
I understand that new management comes with growing pains, but this was beyond disorganized - it was chaos. If the kitchen and staff can’t keep up with the volume of orders, something has to change. Here are a few suggestions for the owners to avoid this in the future: Honest Wait Time Estimates – If a table will be waiting an hour, tell them upfront. Give customers the option to decide if they want to stay. Dedicated Staff for Different Tasks – Assign separate staff to handle dine-in, takeout/delivery orders and cleaning to avoid confusion. Better Communication – Train staff to provide real-time updates on food status rather than vague responses.
I really wanted to love this place, but this experience left us disappointed and confused. Hopefully, management takes these issues seriously because people clearly want to support them - but only if they can get their...
Read moreWent to the restaurant for lunch with my son. First of all, the restaurant had a musty smell and my first instinct was to turn around and leave, but instead we stayed and ordered. The only other person in the restaurant was an older man sitting at a table chatting with the waitress. We ordered Combos and they came out looking hot and fresh. However, upon tasting the chow mein, it tasted like it had been cooked on or in a wok or stove top that had not been clean; it also tasted burnt and had little black particles in it. I should have returned it... :( The meat items were hot and tasted fresh. Instead, we ate what we could and were in the restaurant for about 45 minutes at which time no other patrons came in. The waitress was friendly and attentive. My son did not eat his chow mein and asked for a doggie bag. We paid and left. Once outside, I asked him why he didn't eat his chow mein because he normally is ravenous and eats everything. He shrugged his shoulders and I asked him if it tasted burnt to him, he nodded. I said yah, it tasted that way to me too. He also offered that the place smelled 'funny.' To which I concurred... and said that we should have just turned around and left. Needless to say, within 15 minutes of leaving the place, we both had the runs (yup, diarhea!). We just made it back in time to our hotel to relieve ourselves. Anywho, disappointing to say the least... I'll leave the rest to your...
Read moreNew Ownership 2025!... Maple Ridge finally has Dim Sum! We decided to stop in for lunch dim sum as reviews say the regular menu items were good. Well it didn't disappoint as we usually drive to Vancouver's Western Lake for good dim sum, we weren't going this late that way.
Tried the staples like Shumai, Haw Gao, and they even had Xiao Long Bao (XLB's). All made in-house and only for the weekend dim sum menu. You can taste the freshness from it being made in-house, the sizes of the dumplings were slightly above decent (frozen kind ping-pong ball size, these were about the size of a small squash ball). The XLB's were pretty good, soup inside has lots of flavor, ask for the pink vinegar which needed the thinly sliced ginger strips to really make it take off. But pretty decent dim sum for Maple Ridge, enough to come back and try other items.
We also ordered some of the small dim sum menu items like the Beef Rice Noodle with mixed veggies and deep fried squid with spicy salt. These were very generous portions for what you get and the taste was really good.
If you don't want to drive out of the Ridge for dim sum I'd give this place a try, only complaint which is not about the good is it's cold inside so the food gets cold quick so...
