Ming's is a great example of a Hong Kong styled cafe that hits all the right points. While I've only started visiting here recently, they have apparently been in this corner of New Kennedy Square for over a decade. As with most HK styled cafes, you are looking at curry fish balls, pork and chicken cutlet dishes, and a large amount of rice and noodle dishes. I would say the biggest strength of Ming's is the cost/portion/taste ratio, as they offer large portions of good tasting food that doesn't break the bank (with most dishes being under $12 and generally have a soup and drink that accompanies the main dish).
Of the couple times I've went, the dishes I ordered were always tasty and filling. I never felt as if I didn't get my money's worth nor did I feel the need to order more because I was not full. As with HK style cafe tradition, there is a variety of Chinese and western inspired dishes to appeal to a wide range of palates. I've had a bit of both and I can certainly say that they both taste quite good. One example I could give would be their 12oz sirloin on a sizzling plate which comes with the standard drink and soup, but also comes with a side of rice/spaghettis/fries and also vegetables. You can get the steak cooked however you like and it taste quite good, especially considering all of that is under $20. In terms of drinks, I am a fan of their cold lemon tea.
There really is not a lot of negative I could list out. I would say their location is not the most convenient spot in the world, as it is tucked away in the north-east corner of New Kennedy Square. Seating is also somewhat limited as they are a relatively small restaurant, so finding spots may be difficult during peak hours.
Overall I definitely recommend Ming's to anyone looking to grab some HK styled cafe food. The food is fast, cheap, and tastes great. The staff are also friendly and welcoming. I certainly know I will visit again whenever I'm...
Read moreAs the city of Markham still offers indoor dining, it was the perfect opportunity to revisit Ming's Restaurant.
I have visited Ming's as a child with my family and it was nice to relive some good old memories at Hong Kong Style Diner.
Upon entrance, they were strict to ensure the 10-person seating limit which shows their commitment in following protocol in the midst of COVID-19 in Markham.
I was fortunate enough to have won a giveaway from a fellow influencer to have an opportunity to try out their Baked Porkchop on Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce. It was the perfect dish to help warm from the first major snowfall in the Greater Toronto Area.
The spaghetti was cooked to a perfect al dente which paired nicely with the deep fried porkchop. The tomato sauce has a nice tang to tie in all the flavours together with the melted cheese.
Even though it was a free meal from the giveaway prize, I insisted on paying for my milk tea. I forgot cash and I insisted in tipping them by debit card. Even during these times, the owner said it's not necessary since there is a fee they have to pay for all card transactions.
Therefore, in return for the terrific service and meal, I am happy to write a review on one of my childhood classics and I cannot wait to be back for their afternoon tea and lunch...
Read moreI got delivery through Uber eats twice. First time got chicken fried rice and tomato, cream chicken. Complaints were the rice was really overcooked and chicken had lots of nerves in it. I decided to try a second time because I like the taste of the tomato/creamy sauce. This time I got the latter and the Hawaiian chicken. This time, the chicken had even more nerves in it together with cartilage. Had to spit every couple bites. The Hawaiian chicken looked, smelled and tasted like it was microwaved or boiled. I couldn't eat it. Plus it was bland, had skin-on (I do like skin on in fried chicken but it was really gross here) and had lots of cartilage. I don't know why their chicken is so bad, could be they're using old chicken or maybe they're microwaving their food. I am writing this review hoping the owners will see it and improve. I like the menu but the quality of food needs...
