Cafe Zauq piqued our interest back in the days of shopping for a home in Milton last summer (2016). The thing is, every time we went there it was empty of patrons and the food looked like it was ready to collect CPP...so we never tried it. Lo and behold I was talked into trying it out this fall and go figure! THIS time they were under renovation! (Sept. - Oct. '17). So the same fellow that recommended this place reassured me they were "single and ready to mingle" again! New owners but same staff, so I am told and I ended up frequenting this place THREE times in the span of 24 hours earlier this week! The food is absolutely delicious - my favourite is the aloo gobi which they call "mixed vegetables". Whatever! It's fantastic. Staff are friendly and plenty accommodating and they'll even let you sample a curry you may not be too familiar with. (It's always delectable!) Buy the $5.99 portions that come in black plastic trays and three or four of them will have two people eating supper TWICE! Excellent value and I'm talking portions you'd never finish at a buffet. Delicious! 5/5! I'm going to deduct a point for, firstly, that nasty "customer-coming-to-pick-up-their-order-then-consider-buying-an-extra-pakora-or-two-and-do-you-accept-debit-cards-and-by-the-way-where-is-the-nearest-Tim-Horton's" 'thang? Staff, the only person in front any way, are ever so accommodating yet by the time that person comes back to continue serving you, you forgot what you wanted to order or ask them in the first place. Pulling another person from the back to help would be ideal. Secondly, the butter chicken is delicious but they dole out only five tiny pieces (be grateful if you get six) that end up swimming in that delicious curry with the milk cream in it? $53.00 for supper and you count my butter chicken pieces? C'mon! Nevertheless, a well-deserved 4/5 and they're closer than Silver Spoon (for us) so you can walk to pick up a delicious meal if you've had a few! And their packaging of the food so your Chevy won't smell like channa bhatura is genius with plenty of cellophane wrap! Oh yeah, $2.99 chicken biryani special on Tuesdays! ...
Read moreHad Zauq cater my wedding last year and it was quite the tumultuous experience. We initially talked to them and had agreed on a price and menu a couple months before the wedding. We also got them to provide the cutlery and servers. Initially the price was decent and so we decided to go with them. They provided no written contract even after being asked for one and a couple weeks before the wedding they decided to increase the price by almost 500$. This was super unprofessional and we had to talk to them multiple times about why they were increasing the price and finally got them to come down by 200$ but still had to pay more than what we initially agreed on.
The good: Food was great, all the dishes were very tasty and many people at the wedding asked about where we got this from so kudos to them for it.
The portion of each dish was great as everyone was well fed and we still had alot of leftover food for people to take home.
The bad: The servers did not start serving food until I had to ask them personally even though I had told them ahead of time what the wedding schedule was like and when they should be serving the apps/mains. This caused our entire wedding program to be delayed by 45 mins.
They did not serve the cake, but rather just threw it on a plate and put it out on the tables. They did not put any forks or plates near the cake as well and as a result many of the guests did not try the cake. They were told specifically to cut the cake and serve it in plates to people but this was not the case. As a result, we had a lot of leftover cake which went to waste.
Overall: I would not recommend this place for major functions like weddings but rather for home events where the only thing that matters is the food and not the service.
Also if anyone is going to get them to cater please get them to give you a written contract or they will increase the price without any...
Read moreTill this morning everything was good. Beide the hostile attitude of the girl at the counter , everything was good . Of course i like their food as compare to siver spoon that is why i go there. Let me clear that it had not happend to me. I was just observing. Mr.Ali was himself at the counter dealing the customer. One gentleman asked for two biryani, Now, Mr.Ali was at the counter. The customer decided to pay through debit. Payment was made and he was about to leave when all of sudden he asked for the payment details. Now, it was time for Ali to be confused. Keep in mind that the payenent has been made less that a minutes, ago. How come you have received payment but dont know what is inside the bag and the quantity. You have received the payment. And you don't know how many bryanis were there and what do you have charged him for. Without any kind of emarssemnet he refunded the extra amount he had extra charged. I would never ever accept it as an honest mistake. No excuse,No embarrassment like nothing has happened. What if he had not been demanded for the detailed bill. I think you should have apologized the gentleman. Also, you need to fix your printer, Atleast for the last year, ink has been finished. No one can read your receipt.Sorry, Mr Ali you have disappointed me very much.
I have read your reply. Ok, even if he was not Ali, whoever's that was receiving cash and you know everyone can not open the cash drawer. The other female staff who usually handles it was also standing there. If Ali was out of the country, the person at the cash was definitely very close to him who was looking after the business after him. For sure, he was not the employee.still, you are giving lame excuses instead of admitting that he did wrong. Accepting mistake is...
