When visiting any Italian eatery for the first time (I typically favour non-chain restaurants as much as possible and therefore, I would have also expected a more authentic experience), my baseline go-to is a veal sandwich to get a sense of quality. I’ve have had many veal sandwiches over 30 years… the worse I’ve ever had was only because it was too big, too sloppy and made a total mess but, it was good!
Sadly, I tried Luigi’s veal sandwich and for the initial price point, I found it to be: (A) Skimpy on the veal, it was ok, but not great. The breading could have been more refined and crispier, sized at least to appear to hang out over the bread etc. The menu says 4oz so, probably should have known better, as it was small, really small but I was also not that hungry. With that being said, for similar price point, veal sandwiches I’ve had always have two slices, on occasion three, this had one. I almost always bring leftovers home, this time, none. (B) Everything other than the bread, veal, sauce is extra, including cheese. It started adding up quickly. (C) The quantity of topping were disappointing. Hot peppers seemed like they were store bought, jarred . The mushrooms had no characteristic favours from being sautéed in olive oil with garlic, very boring/plain. (D) This is the first time (and last time) having a veal sandwich on ciabatta bread… in all fairness, I actually asked what bread they use and thought, that’s odd, but let’s give it a try. For me, it just doesn’t work.. a basic kaiser would definitely been better but then that would mean, more topping because a kaiser is much bigger and topping are $0.79 each so given my previous points, either same amount would be used to maintain profitability but it would even be more disappointing or, most likely, a higher price per topping cost!
Don’t get me wrong on pricing… I have absolutely no problem paying more when you’re getting better quality, something uniquely special/authentic, personalized experience… this just didn’t have any of that vibe!
I cannot speak to anything else on their menu. I have been told their pizza is great, sadly, I’m not a huge pizza fan… too greasy and salty for me however, I certainly hope this is the case as I’d hate to see another local eatery disappear into history and watch homogenous, dull, fast food chain take its place.
So, I’m rating 2 stars because (1) the staff contact was fine, (2) the veal sandwich...
Read moreI’ve been reading the negative reviews and have noticed a pattern that management seems to take zero responsibility for a negative experience in their restaurant. They have even accused some people of making up lies and different accounts. All the negative reviews consistently say bad food or/and bad attitude from management.
With that said. This just happened to us and It is 100% true.
My husband just ordered dinner for us from Liugi’s. We’ve always had a good experience there and were looking forward to our meal. We received our order an hour later (no biggy) and when we looked at our food we were so let down. The sandwich’s were so small, overcooked, there was no cheese (we asked and paid for cheese) literally 2-3 mushrooms per sandwich (paid extra). The wings looked and tasted like they were cooked earlier and then reheated. Super tiny. I found 2 that were a piece of a wing, not even a full wing and that counted as part of our 10 piece order and drenched in sauce.
My husband is not the type to call and complain so you know it was bad if he felt the need to call and complain. Management was everything every negative review that has been said about him. He yelled at my husband, kept blaming the quality of the food on COVID-19 as my husband repeatedly said that he didn’t want to argue and then told my husband that he was going to block him and then hung up. I need to make clear that at no point did my husband become rude or nasty or use foul language that would make someone reach that way.
We are so disappointed in the food and more so in the reaction we received from management. As much as we try to support smaller businesses during this time, we can’t support Luigi’s and will not be going there ever again. Btw, I have pictures of the food that I will happily upload in case management wants to say that this review is fake too.
Also, remember Pretty Woman? Big mistake, huge. Not only have they lost business from us as a family but they have simultaneously lost business from a huge, very well known distribution company near by that my husband Manages....
Read moreI can't even give my experience ONE star. I ordered a pizza (WELL DONE)... The pizza showed up under cooked and the driver must have had the pizza on it's side because only half the pizza had it's toppings. When I called to let them know they could not send me a new pizza because the owner was not there and it wasn't the cashier's call. What owner leaves his restaurant and doesn't leave anyone in charge to make a call like that? The cashier took my number and said the owner would call me in 10 min. He called the next day at 8am... 14 hours later!!!! He was rude, would not let me speak and accused me of making his cashiers cry. The food was disgusting...the wings were full of oil and burnt. He told me he has bever had any complaints and has been running a restaurant for over 20 years. An owner of 20 years experience and lost a customer who spent 80 dollars to save himself 5 bucks to send another one. An experienced owner who leaves his restaurant at 6pm and doesn't leave anyone in charge. I will never ever order from them again. I have posted my experience on all my social media because I needed to not only warn people of the horrible food but especially the customer service the owner SAM had to offer. Speaking to a woman the way he did was not only offensive but reassured me that everything that came out of his mouth was a complete and utter LIE... owner says he reached out to resolve but I was upset... He did not reach out to resolve. He reached out to tell me he made the food himself. Which means it was acceptable. The order was placed through skip the dishes and they were kind enough to reimburse me for the inedible wings as well as the pizza that although the driver must have incorrectly handled it that doesn't mean that she also cooked it. I wish I could post the pictures. Utter disgust. I will post pics on all my social media. I would like people to understand that yes sometimes a restaurant may make an error. It happens but nobody should have to endure the abuse and disregard the owner SAM...
