I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the meal I ordered (take away) from Afghan Palace (an ironic name given that there is nothing palatial about this restaurant). We normally order Afghan food from “W” (Winston Churchill & DundasSt.) or “P” (on Dundas west of Dundas). I thought I’d give this new restaurant a try.
The interior is typical of many restaurants in the plaza (Eglinton and Ridgeway in Mississauga). There few tables and not especially comfortable. On one wall is a large screen tv playing some sort of Afghan pop music video. Not great for ambiance. Would have preferred something soothing or perhaps CP24 news. Dinning room was clean. I saw two plates of food that seemed half eaten (a warning perhaps). The dinners left the restaurant leaving a lot of food on their plates.
I ordered Beef Tikka Kabob meal ($18.99 + tax). I should have checked the contents of my order before I left the restaurant. When I got home I was UNPLEASANTLY SURPRISED to see such a small quantity of kibab sitting in a veritable sea of rice. I was DISAPPOINTED to say the least. The kebab was acceptable. Not the best I’ve tasted, but it was ok. The rice was edible but not very good, nothing like what is served at “W” or “P”.
As for the service, I can’t really say it was good or bad. I did order takeout. The staff I did see didn’t strike me as being especially friendly or personable.
To summarize, I am not at all happy with the meal I ordered at Afghan Palace. The rice was not near as tasty as the rice I’ve had at other Mississauga Afghan restaurants (“W” or “P”). I could have overlooked the QUALITY of the rice if I received an appropriate sized QUANTITY of Beef Tikka Kebab. They gave me half the amount of meat that other Afghan restaurants would serve. I feel that I was cheated.
I can appreciate that the rent for then unit is expensive. I was told that units in that strip mall rent for $6000/month. However, serving less than adequate portions of meat is no way to save or make money. Money is to be made from repeat business. Had I been satisfied with the quality and quality of my meal, I certainly would make this restaurant my “go to” Afghan restaurant. I would recommend family and friends to do the same. Unfortunately I can’t do that based on the food I recently ordered.

Read moreFinding a restaurant that truly captures the essence of Afghan cuisine is a rarity, but I am thrilled to say that my recent dining experience did just that.
We ordered two skewers of kebabs, the kabuli pulao, and a side of bread and salad. Every dish was a testament to the rich culinary traditions of our homeland.
The kebabs were nothing short of perfection. Tender, juicy, and infused with just the right blend of spices, each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors. The meat was marinated to perfection, absorbing all the seasonings, and grilled to achieve a smoky, charred finish that was incredibly satisfying. It was as if the skewers had been lifted straight from a traditional Afghan grill.
The kabuli pulao was the star of the meal. The fluffy basmati rice, topped with sweet carrots and plump raisins, was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The balance of sweet and savory, along with the hint of spices like cardamom and cumin, brought back fond memories of family gatherings and festive occasions.
Even the sides were a delight. The bread, warm and soft with a slightly crisp exterior, was the perfect vehicle for scooping up the flavorful rice and meat. The salad was fresh, providing a refreshing contrast to the rich dishes, and was dressed simply to allow the natural flavors of the vegetables to shine.
What truly stood out to me was how every dish was seasoned and cooked with such care. It was evident that the chef understood the importance of balance in Afghan cuisine—how each spice and ingredient should complement the other, creating a harmonious and deeply satisfying meal. It wasn’t just the taste that impressed me, but the authenticity. It felt like home. Every bite brought back memories of meals shared with loved ones, of the bustling markets and the fragrant kitchens of Afghanistan.
In a world where it’s easy to lose the essence of traditional cooking, this restaurant has managed to preserve the soul of Afghan cuisine. I left not only with a full stomach but with a heart full of nostalgia and appreciation. For anyone looking to experience a true taste of Afghanistan, I cannot recommend this place enough.

Read more0/5 rating ......Absolutely horrid customer experience. Called last week on Thursday to order one of the advertized daily specials posted on the window of the store at 4:00 in the afternoon. They advised they were sold out of the channa which is one of the accompaniment options of the meal. They then proceeded to advise the meal is a very small portion - two small beef kebabs. We tried to order again on Monday tbis week ( this time in person ) at the restaurant. After being rude to my wife the gentleman identified himself as the owner. He was aggressive, kurt and rude. He advised that they were out of channa ( again ) this time even earlier at approximately 330 p.m. Once again we were advised about it being a small portion and that this was a lunch meal. As per the sign in the wondow this is an ALL- DAY special not a LUNCH special. Regardless of the availability of the food or proportion size it is the poor customer service and inhospitable environment that made us walk out of this establishment. There are many Afghan restaurant options in the area particularly outside of this specific eating mall . We have frequented many and found them to be courteous and obliging to their clients. Some have even choosen to provide free meals to people who are unable to pay. This kindness and sensitivity to those in need will certainly earn customers respect. Afghan Palace (based on our experience) will need luck to be successful due to their poor customer service and inability to gauge daily food requirment. True review 0/5 stars based on two separate opportunities of not having food, two staff interactions being abrasive and rude, inaccurate advertisement in the window and indifference...
