I would give this a negative rating if I could. The entire experience at this place was miserable.
We ate there at 11am which was when they opened and it was fairly empty. As soon as we were seated, we ask for tea and two glasses of water. Instead of serving us, the waitress (an older woman and two mid-age women) stood around the tea dispenser stirring their Tim Hortons coffee. Of course, that reasonable since it could be a morning briefing but when they start talking about the 'bad' customers they had to the serve the previous day, it quickly became a venting session in front of us. We just wanted to order our food so we waved for them to get our order. They waved back and said we are busy. We watched them chat for another 5 minutes until they become 'free' to take our order. They came o er emphanded without tea or water that we had ordered.
Once our food had arrived, we wanted to add another dish. I ordered steamed turnip cake. Minutes later they arrived with fried turnip cake. I said I ordered the steamed version. Instead of correcting my order, they insisted that I ordered the wrong item and reprimanded me in front of the whole restaurant (which filled up by this time) by yelling at my table saying we made a mistake (we sat at the back and the kitchen was across the restaurant). Even IF we were wrong, that's not customer service.
Since we sat at the back where the doors were they used our table as a check in station. They left a clip board with pen and numbered slips for the wait list. I felt that it was incrediblly inconvenient since we were still eating dishes at the table.
When we were done our dishes, no one would pick up the empty plates. At first we thought it was because they didn't notice it. So we started leaving the dishes on top of the clip board they used to check people in. When they saw that, they took the empty plates off the clip board. Instead of taking the empty plates away, they put the plates back on our table when retrieving the clipboard. This happened mutiple times where we would stack the plates on the clipboard and they would retrieve the clipboard but put the plates back onto our table.
We did not believe that they deserve any tip from us, so left them exact change on our bill. As we were leaving, one of the waitress came over and realized that we didn't leave them any tip. She proceeded to chase me out the door and told me I need to pay her tip. I told her the issues for the lack of tip and she yelled at me to say that if the food was delivered to my table, it means I got served and therefore they deserved tip.
Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone. The food is not amazing and the service is non existent. Go at...
Read moreMy family and I have been coming here for 10+ years…. Today is the last time we will be ordering from them. My mom called to place a big order of 2 orders of the Dungeness crab, 1 Lobster with E-Fu, fried shrimp, congee supreme and SOLE Fish…. First of all, when my mom spoke to the employee on the phone, she was asking if it was the same Sole fish and the employee kept insisting that it is and that it’s the same that we always order. We always get it because it’s a big and perfect size portion for my big family. When we came to pick up the order, my mom paid $200 in cash and the total was $191.76. Obviously since it’s only take out, it’s not necessary to tip any server but when it came to giving back change, the employee just kept saying thank you and continued to pace around… my mom continued to stand and wait to get her change and the employee just kept saying thank you so my mom felt uncomfortable and left with the food. This already was not right for them to keep my mom’s change… Secondly, when we went back home to serve the food to the family, we opened everything up and found that the fish we ordered was NOT sole fish, it was a small pompret/pompano(ok for 1-2 people). Surely we thought it was just a mistake so we called them to confirm.
When we called Chi’s Congee, we spoke to the woman on the phone and she said the fish is butterfish. I began to express our concern because if we have known first when we place the order that it’s NOT SOLE FISH, we wouldn’t have ordered. She then continued to tell us that since we already paid, there’s nothing that they can do (that’s already unbelievable). I then told her that it’s not right to lie to my mom that it was Sole fish just so she would purchase and that I also would want to speak to the owner. This lady had such an aggressive tone and told us to call back later… I then asked when the owner would be in and then she kept screaming “LATER” and that’s when she hung up…
It’s really sad and unfortunate that we experienced this type of behaviour from a restaurant that we have been so loyal to and always bring visitors to come and enjoy their food… Now, we’d rather go to Congee Queen or any other...

I have been here over 20 years. And I don’t like to gripe or complain because the food is consistently good and the service is helpful.
But today …. I am shocked 😳 about their take out portions. I have to ask you… is this worth $70.00??? Otherwise I can go next door to Star Chinese Restaurant!!!
I will NOT return here again because I can spend my money 💵 for better value elsewhere!!! Look at the last few pictures with the curry chicken dish...is there any chicken in there? And the friend beef noodles...it looks like someone already ate a portion of it at the restaurant and then packed it up for me !!!
Very disappointed!!! It feels like you were robbed of your money … it really feels terrible. I should have ordered McDonald’s, at least their portions vs. Cost is consistent.
You can decide for yourselves …
Peace ✌️ and pissed off 😤 Avoid if possible.....they are busy and their portions reflect that.
This location has been here for over 20 years. I still remember its predecessor which was a classic Taiwanese dessert hang out place where you can read comics, books and play board games from their selection on the rack. And they served amazing crushed ice desserts.
Okay back to the present. Chi's has never disappointed me, my friends or family. The food has always been exceptional. From their selection of congee, fried noodles, dinner a la carte etc.
It is good to see that the wait staff is still the same as well. I find the food to be better than say a Congee Queen. So I tend to come here when I have a craving for classic HK/Cantonese congee , fried noodles and rice etc.
A+ experience for me...
