I took 3 of my friends to have the amazing fried chicken this place serves. We had dinner but i wanted my friends to try it. It was their first time, not mine. Ordered just 2 SMALL baskets of chicken and 1 order of spring rolls. That's it. This is something 2 people can order too. Anyways. We had a great time had dinner and then the bill was received. It was around 77 dollars. I gave a small tip and paid the bill. This server comes back demanding for atleast 15% tip saying it's their policy. This is AFTER I've paid. I told him if its MANDATORY firstly why wasn't it added to the bill? If i have no option? Secondly i wasnt even informed. That even if I order 4 cans of pop, just because it's 4 people there's a mandatory tip. He said it's on the menu somewhere. I didn't even look at the menu I ordered what I wanted I knew what to order. But HOW embarrassing in front of my guests coming back and asking for more tip. I'm never coming back. It was really embarrassing. Just like I don't have an option to pay or not pay for my food, if I HAVE to pay a certain tip (which should not be the case) then it should be included in the bill. Or the least you can do is inform your guests VERBALLY not expecting them to study your menu for each detail. This was NOT a policy before I've come with my family here many times. This time it was straight up embarrassing. You guys are really spoiling your atmosphere and culture. The server came once to take the order which took 30 seconds. And then once to drop the food off to our table. That was another 10 seconds maybe. 2 small baskets of chicken and spring rolls. For that service you want a certain tip. Ok I get it if it's a policy. But then to not inform the customer and come back AFTER I paid in front of my guests and ask for more tip. Crazy!! We see this kind of stuff in viral videos online. Very...
Read morePlease heed my warning, DO NOT go to this restaurant.
When my family and I paid the bill, we gave a tip but our waiter asked us why we didn't give more of a tip and we were honest with him. The food is awfully mediocre compared to other korean restaurants, it is VERY overpriced, you do not get your money's worth with how small the portion sizes are, and the service is not good.
He then went and told the manager and the manager came to our table when we were about to leave and told us our bill did not go through because we did not give enough of a tip.
We told him we literally gave a tip but he said it wasn't enough and demanded we pay 10% more. When we refused to pay him, he started yelling and arguing with us. We tried arguing back but he was not having it. He wouldn't let us leave either so we had no choice but to pay the extra money.
We were furious because the restaurant does not have a sign or does not clearly state anywhere on their menu or in the restaurant about this policy they have regarding tips, and the manager says out of nowhere when customers are trying to leave that the restaurant has this "policy".
No restaurant or any dine-in place should be DEMANDING tips or extra money from their customers. It's literally against the law to force customers to pay tips. Tipping is something voluntary we all do anyway, but FORCING you to tip or to tip more money than nessicary? This is the only restaurant I've ever...
Read moreI went to Chi Mac Korean Restaurant in Mississauga with my friends last night and we had a great time. The food was top tier, especially the fried chicken. We ordered half sweet and spicy and half regular, and both were crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The sizzling beef was also tender and well-seasoned, and came with a variety of side dishes. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable.
The service was decent, but not exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentive, but they seemed to be in a hurry to clear our table. They also asked us for a higher tip than we expected, which felt cringe. They said it was because they had to pay a high rent and they were struggling to survive. We felt sorry for them, but we also felt pressured and uncomfortable. We think they would be better off adding a 10% gratuity for every dine in, instead of asking for more. That way, customers would know what to expect and they would not feel guilty or annoyed. It also makes sense since they offer a discount if you pay cash.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Chi Mac and we would recommend it to anyone who loves Korean fried chicken and sizzling beef. However, we hope they improve their tipping policy and make it more transparent and fair for both...
